Lahore: Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan led a massive gathering of his supporters in Lahore as he sought to galvanise his fledgling Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf party by raking up the issue of the rights of Kashmiris and seeking withdrawal of Indian troops from Jammu and Kashmir.

The rally near the Minar-e-Pakistan monument, which was attended by over 100,000 people, was aimed at projecting Khan as a serious contender in Pakistan's political arena ahead of the 2013 general election.

Over the past few months, Khan's party has sought to enlarge its support base in Punjab, the country's most populous province.

Khan's nearly 50-minute speech largely focussed on the problems and challenges facing Pakistan, including corruption and crippling power outages, but he used the occasion to take up several populist issues, including the Kashmir dispute.

"I want to tell Hindustan that the 700,000 troops you have kept among the Kashmiris. No army has been able to solve any country's problems at any time," he said to cheers from his supporters.

"Did the Americans succeed in Afghanistan? Is the Indian Army more powerful than the US Army? When the Americans couldn't succeed, how can you succeed with 700,000 troops that are involved in excesses?" he alleged.

Khan, whose party did not participate in the last general election and fared poorly in previous polls, called on India to give "Kashmiris their rights and call back the troops".

He said his party would "stand with the Kashmiri brothers and speak for their rights at all forums".
    :blah::blah::blah:

He said the rally marked the culmination of a movement begun 15 years ago by the Pakistan Tehrik to tackle the country's problems, including corruption, inflation, rising prices, lack of education, unemployment and an energy crisis.

I think he will be a good and realistic leader and relations between India Pakistan might improve. But he seems hopeless.

No one can even dream of winning to Power in Pakistan , unless he spews venom against India.

Does he think Pakistan has no other real problem to think of the problem of Kashmir?

The fact that Imran Khan can say this to stir emotions indicates that the situation in pak will remain on the boil for a long time.

Imran Khan as a cricketer was exceptional, but he is a joker as a politician. That is why his party is a nonentity in elections. IA in Kashmir is not as stupid as the Americans in Afghanistan. Moreover in Kashmir people are fed up of the firangi militants. Imran Khan should better pay more attention to Pakistan's immediate and chronic problems.

WTF Imran Khan have to do with India's matters, first he protested the Drone attacks upon Taliban, now giving Moral support(literally) to the LeT efforts, enough for me to term him as a terrorist, hello Mr. Cricketer turned terrorist mind you own nation which is deteriorating like never before, thanks to the bitter consequences of their Jihadi theory, go fcuk your own azz. Do suicide for the cause of Jihad but don't comment on something which is none of your biz.

    Let's not be too overconfident.
We need to replace numbers with transport system, quantity with quality.
AFSPA with improved suveillance and intelligence.
And stop entertaining the pious hope that we can wing by staying inside our own forts, offensive arsenal to scare Pakistan to rethink its policy of sending over miscreants across the border, or better yet, go broke in trying to catch up.

India will Fail in Kashmir as U.S. in Afghanistan: Imran Khan

Lahore: It was a real show of power from the cricketer-turned politician Imran Khan who with his 100,000 flag-waving supporters rallying near the Minar-e-Pakistan monument, saw himself establishing as a real force in Pakistani politics.

Talking up the issue of the rights of Kashmiris at the heavily electrified political rally, he said the Indian Army will fail in Kashmir as the U.S. army did in Afghanistan. "Did the Americans succeed in Afghanistan? Is the Indian Army more powerful than the U.S. Army? When the Americans couldn't succeed, how can you succeed with 700,000 troops that are involved in excesses?," he asks as the crowd cheered.

"No army has been able to solve any country's problems at any time," he said demanding that the Indian troops should be withdrawn from Jammu and Kashmir. The chief of Tehreek-e-Insaf also asked Hindustan to give the people of Kashmir their right to self-determination. He said his party would "stand with the Kashmiri brothers and speak for their rights at all forums".

Khan who founded his political party 15 years ago is trying hard to translate his fame into votes. Focusing on the core issues in the country such as corruption, lack of education, rising prices, inflation and unemployment, the cricketing legend is expanding his political base ahead of the 2013 general election. A poll conducted by the U.S.-based Pew Research Center back in June sees Khan as the most popular political figure in Pakistan.
