Rahul has earlier campaigned in Gujarat and Bihar,
    and in both places,
    congress was beaten hands down.

This is the Ultimate test for Rahul and his supporters,
who often project him as the future PM of India.

Bhubaneswar: Charisma of Naveen once again proved beneficial for ruling Biju Janata Dal in Panchayat Poll as BJD wins 651 ZP seats out of 851. This was announced by the state election commission here on Thursday.

Elections were held for 851 Zilla Parishad Zones out of a total of 854 Zilla Parishad Zones. The SEC today announced results of 818 zones while the results of 33 zones in Puri district were withheld. The ruling Biju Janata Dal has claimed 624 Zilla Parishad Zones. The Congress with just 124 Zilla Parishad Zones while the Bharatiya Janata Party wins 36 Zilla Parisha Zones. The CPI and CPI(M) candidates registered victories in two and one Zilla Parisha Zones while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha(JMM) bagged 11 Zilla Parishad Zones. The Independents could taste success in 20 Zilla Parishad Zones. The complete rout of the saffron party was the most startling revelation of the election results.

The BJD has claimed majority in Puri, Nayagarh, Khurda, Ganjam, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, Nuapara, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Suvarnapur, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Boudh. finally national media reported it

Police on Monday seized 300 dummy Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) from the vehicle of a RLD candidate at Baruat in Baghpat district.

The EVMs were brought to the state from Haryana in a car and were seized during checking of the vehicles at Niwari check post, police sources here said. They were brought by the RLD nominee Ashwini Tomar. A case has been registered against Tomar, sources said.

The dummy EVMs looked exactly like the EVMs used during the elections, police said.

Tomar, meanwhile, said that he had brought them with a view to make his supporters understand how they have to vote.

Varun out to prove a point to party?

BJP MP Varun Gandhi may not have been very visible in the campaign for about-to-be-concluded Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, but the young MP is definitely out to prove a point to his party in these elections.

Hailed as a youth icon and a star campaigner of the BJP, Mr Gandhi was highly in demand by the candidates to campaign but he chose to stay away from the entire state and concentrated on his own constituency, Pilibhit, and Aonla which is represented by his mother Maneka Gandhi.
Since the past one month, Mr Gandhi has been almost camping in Pilibhit and Aonla and visiting the deepest nooks and corners of the constituency, meeting people and urging them to vote for the BJP.
“He did not campaign so vigorously in his own Lok Sabha elections as he did this time. He did not address big rallies or rake up controversies with his statements but silently campaigned for the party,” said a supporter.
According to sources close to the BJP MP, Mr Gandhi apparently wanted to prove his worth to the party before he moves on to a larger canvas. “Some senior leaders in the party are apparently wary of Varun’s growing popularity and keep trying to pull him down. Varun, it seems, wants to prove his capability before this section of leaders before he spreads his wings. There was a huge demand for his campaign in the state, right up to the farthest corner in Ballia, but he politely declined. Besides, we realize that he also wants to fortify his political base before he takes on rivals inside and outside the party,” explained a senior BJP functionary in Lucknow.
