I recall something being told to me about L&T already building 04, somewhere on eastern coast. This will be in 45000+ class.

Not happening (see the certainty?). The Harriers have flown into the sunset for India. The last of the British lot was picked up by US for their Marine Corps.

Not playing @PARIKRAMA all depends on the revival of proposal of dedicated Marine Forces on lines of US MEU. The proposal was shot down under UPA-2 for lack of funds.

However, with increased shift in securing own SLOCs as also emphasis on denial of usage of Enemy SLOCs to the enemy , as also requirement to 'secure' the Indian Ocean Littoral and beyond becoming a clear policy directive under the present regime, this proposal is again showing signs of life. Hence, a mix?

will the amphibious and marine force means expeditionary in nature.. or are they more specific for SLOC in and around say Seychelles, Mauritius domain and in Singapore, Vietnam side + A&N?

The proposal was to have MEUs. Towards this, tentative steps were made in making 54 Infantry Division into RAMFOR or Reorganised Army Marine Force (you will find similarity to Indian Army RAPID Divisions here, Reorganised Army Plain Infantry Division in style of nomenclature). Without getting into specifics, let us assume that today IA + IN has the capability to project at least one division worth of troops by sea. Obviously, the same can be augmented with the present structure of force which we have, but that shall require some re-jig of assets.

The aim of raising dedicated Integrated Marine Forces under ANC tri-services command is exactly on lines of US MEUs, with integral air component. This is where, the force structure, as of today, will most probably be a combination os V-22s and Helicopters or purely Heliborne air support. Since the GoI has to take a decision on the force parameters, it is, as of yet, very difficult to comment on the component of air arm. Will it have a fixed wing component? Highly unlikely in terms of fighters.

That is what my understanding as well. But old love for VTOL jets is hard to die :p:p

May be we can ask Russia to revive Yak-141 project ;);)

On serious note, these jets can enhance capability of LPD/LHD in area denial by multi-fold compare to Helicopters alone (that is the reason US marine corps still operates Harriers and are investing a lot in F-35B).

The envisaged operations are again with a CBG. Hence, the integral air component will be there. That is why, as far as I can make out and what the current thoughts prevail (keeping in mind the costs and the budgetary allocation and support) we are likely t stick to maximum v-22 with helicopters. Otherwise, only helicopters.

You mean to say we are building LPDs larger than Mistral class or just another 45 ton commercial ship?

Just to add little masala. ABG Shipyard has recalled people last month to start work on something for the IN. Dokdo would have been through them, IF it was to come. Let me call and check if the recall was for this. :crazy_pilot:

If we go and understand the words of @Hellfire suddenly the whole apparatus of needs is different.. for example an LPD/LHD for Japan has different meaning.. for us its different as well.. the final selection can be anyone.. as long it meets IN needs and requirements.. Shipyard tech tie up and possible some other packaged deal will be key..
