    UPDATED: FEBRUARY 25, 2017 03:42 IST

The Ministry of Railways sanctioned a proposal to conduct a survey to connect Belonia in south Tripura through an alternative route from Dharmanagar in north Tripura. It also approved a fund of Rs. 43 lakh towards expenditure involved in the survey, and research issues.

The Office of the General Manager, Construction, of the Northeastern Frontier Railway (NFR), with its headquarters in Maligaon received the sanctioned letters from the Ministry and Railway Board, a railway official said in Agartala on Friday. He envisaged commencement of construction work this year after completion of the survey.

Frequent traveller on Delhi-Howrah route? Trains to run faster as Railways to equip modern signalling system by April

    By: PTI | New Delhi | Updated: February 24, 2017 4:44 PM

To make the movement of about 200 trains faster on a highly congested route, the railways is inching closer to equip the entire Ghaziabad-Kanpur route with modern signalling and communication system. A Centralised Traffic Control (CTC) system on the 473-km route between Ghaziabad and Kanpur covering 47 stations is going to be commissioned by April, said a senior railway ministry official.

The route is witnessing heavy congestion causing delays in train movement. The operationalisation of CTC system is expected to reduce delays in train running considerably as all the signalling operation will be done on a click of mouse.

Passing a train through the station involves exchange of technical control between cabins and station master at the station which resulted in considerable delay in giving the signal and passing the train. Currently, the CTC system is operational in seven stations in the Ghaziabad-Kanpur route on a pilot basis.
The Ghaziabad-Kanpur corridor handles about 200 trains a day and is a major challenge for the Railways to modernise signaling and train control system from the manual lever frame operated signalling system to state-of-art system of electronic interlocking using optical fibre cable communication.

Operationalised at a cost of Rs 40 crore, CTC is a computer-based system which facilitates the operation of signaling and train control system provided at various stations in the section from a central place. This helps in better planning and management of train movements which reduces delays of trains.

With the commissioning of the entire route, all the train movements can be monitored on real time basis in the CTC system which means all signalling operations will be done by controllers on a click of mouse on the visual display unit.

This has become possible with the advancement of data networking techniques using optical fiber cable, the official said. During normal functioning of CTC, the station masters at stations have to ensure safe passage of trains by exchanging all right signal with train crew and visual inspection of trains but in emergency or for carrying out shunting operations, the control can be transferred to local station master from CTC.

Italy eyes investments in Indian Railways, manufacturing, set to end hiatus in ties after row over marine

By: Huma Siddiqui | Published: February 25, 2017 6:18 AM

Italy is sending a 200-member delegation to India in April to scout for investment in railways and manufacturing, New Delhi’s envoy said, ending a hiatus in ties caused by the row over the arrest of Italian marines. Indian envoy Anil Wadhwa told FE, “The business delegation’s visit is part of efforts to restart engagement under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ to boost domestic industry and fuel growth.” “Representatives from various sectors including railways, manufacturing and infrastructure will be part of the delegation led by Carlo Calenda, minister for trade and commerce development of Italy,” he added.

To push the Make in India initiative in consultation with Confindustria (the apex private chamber of Italy), both sides plan to organise an event with expected participation of more than 150 Italian companies. This will be followed by an ‘Indian Exporters and Italian Importers’ meet at Rome and Milan, said the Indian envoy.

Also, to attract more investment from Italian companies in various sectors, a series of commercial events has been planned for the whole year in Rome, including three investment meets in the sectors of renewable energy, engineering and auto components next month.
According to Wadhwa, the Indian embassy, in association with Tour operators Association of Italy (Federturismo) is planning to organise two tourism promotion and investment events in Rome and Verona, with the participation of Indian and Italian tour operators.

In the last one year, several hundreds of Italian business representatives have participated in various meets in sectors including commerce, investment, promotion of tourism, and academics. The activities were spread out from the north of Italy (Turin, Padova, Verona, Bergamo, Milan, and Florence) to the south (Rome, Napoli).

Last September, with the support of Confindustria, the Indian mission had organised an investment and business meet, which was attended by DIPP secretary Ramesh Abhishek along with officials from Invest India, the ministry of railways and the ministry of food processing.

According to officials, one of the successful outcomes of those initiatives was the participation of senior executives of about 40 Italian companies from the railway, manufacturing and infrastructure sectors in the recently-concluded ‘Bengal Global Business Meet’ held in Kolkata in January
    this year.

In a series of events organised to promote tourist traffic both ways, about 30 big tour operators from India participated in events organised in Rome by the Indian mission.

Wow...Are the locomotives and coaches indigenously designed or is there some kind of ToT/License Manufacturing in play....

If this is an Indigenously Designed and Manufactured product....This will surely be a giant leap forward.

I would assume so...along with E-visa extended to italian citizens. Sad that whole incident happened to put this dampener on relations with an important economy.
