@anant_s any idea whether/when the IR are going to start using covered coal boogeys as they were told to do (by the enviroment ministry IIRC)?

Not sure if any such development is underway.
usually the coal from mines shipped to users is washed or sprayed with water to avoid coal dust generation, so i'm not sure if using covered wagons will actually bring any tangible environmental benefit.

I am all for electrification of all lines.
But bullet trains do we really need it..now?

Even if its foreign direct investment at low interest rates , still interest and principal will flow out..

Why don't we interlink rivers , it will be more beneficial for the populace ..

Till that time flight s can cover the fast travel segment..

Even before the summer Kaveri river is dry..
    No water in any dam...
    Drought is already upon us..
Even the housing waters is difficult, people are purchasing water already..

Only rainfall can bring water.. Hoping we ll adequate after summer.
Otherwise we are going to witness heavy drought.

Is it possible for army engineering corps to take up the project, and money earned can be used in modernisation of military ?

See Air Travel can never be a substitute for High Speed Railway. And Japan itself is an example. They definitely earn much much higher , did the Japanese nationals gave up HSR for Air Travel ? No.

As for why we need it now?
Because there is a demand and benefits to be reaped out of it. You see we are already 2 decades late on HSR. We need to invest in HSR.

Yes but not at the cost of improving the normal Indian Railway Services. Both should be balanced.

    And both are being balanced.

Infrastructure Development is one biggest key to propping up employment and our economy [as our exports remain weak].

And the trio of Suresh Prabhu, Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal have been exactly doing this. They are the best performers currently.

As for linking the rivers , you see all the major rivers in India are shared by atleast 2 states. And we have seen what can happen with water disputes.

It would require much more greater consensus than we are needing in GST. If we successfully get GST done, then we may work on it.
