Dhanush, India's first long-range artillery gun is undergoing user trials in Himalayas.

A total of six guns are being tested by the Indian Army under the aegis of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps and the Leh-based 14 Corps.

A production-level prototype is being tested and this is supposed to be the last lap of trials before the Ordnance Factory Board starts it bulk production. “The guns are doing well, but results in a tabulated form are awaited,” sources told Tribune India on Sunday.

The first three guns of the production-level prototype underwent four-month trial from June to September. Three more other guns were to be added and the entire lot will be tested in high-altitude winter conditions.

Dhanush 155 MM/45 calibre gun is based on the 1980s’ Bofors FH-77B/39 Calibre artillery gun design and aided by the transfer of technology (ToT) clause signed with the Swedish company AB Bofors of Sweden.

The Army’s Field Artillery Rationalisation Plan, drawn in 1999, aims to acquire 2,800-3,000 155 mm/52-calibre guns of all kinds and 155 mm/39-calibre lightweight howitzers by 2027.

Dhanush guns will be showcased during a Republic Day parade this January 26.

Tata Power SED is involved in building the ATAGS, I'm not aware of their stake (if any) in Dhanush-45. Tata also was offering the Denel T5-52 MGS for the Wheeled SPH requirement, but it appears unlikely we'll go for it. Nexter Caesar (in tie-up with L&T for local production and Ashok Leyland for the truck) is most likely going to win.

Kalyani had bought up the designs for the Austrian GHN.45, up-gunned it to 52 caliber and offered the Bharat-52 howitzer. But with ATAGS coming along fine, neither the Bharat-52 nor the OFB Dhanush-52 appear to have any chances left.

Kalyani also has a 105mm 4x4-mounted SPH (can be mounted on any truck basically), this can be a great replacement for the IFGs in future.

Indian Academics showcased the Dhanush and other artillery pieces at School of Artillery Devlali.

Top academia from Indian Institute of Technology, Bengaluru- based Indian Institute of Science and other Centres of Excellence got a ringside view of the #IndianArmy’s precise application of firepower, as part of an outreach programme to involve them in assisting modernisation of the Indian Army. Under the outreach initiative, spearheaded by the Army Design Bureau (ADB) set up last year , the academia and Industry experts visited School of Artillery in Devlali to witness live firing by Bofors gun and rocket launchers for the first time today. Similar display is being planned in Mhow on 20th Feburary 2017. #MakeinIndia

Left one prototype is developed by Kalyani Group and the right one is developed by TATA Power SED. Apart from some cosmetic differences, the main addition in the Kalyani Group's prototype is an autoloader from ELBIT first seen on their Bharath 52 howitzer showcased during last year's DefExpo. Take a look at circled part in pic.

one of the rare "well refined" products from India's stables. Usually the end product looked like it was hacked together in place with a bunch of duct tape.
Look at the tires on that thing, the finishing. Makes me proud.
