Electrical works are going on at Vikrant. It will float by 2019. New aircraft carrier of bigger size can be build only after dry dock expansion at Cochin Shipyard. The consultation company is dragging it's feet and after 1 year mostly tender for dry dock and after 3 years or so only construction of new aircraft carrier can commence. After 4_5 years the security situation will be ripe for the next aircraft carrier to start construction. No need to worry at present.

does the new/current carriers have high heat resistant desks to handle the very hot jet exhausts? i highly doubt it

Not sure if the Russians do it, but that can be dealt with, by treating a specific landing spot or using landing pads like USMC do on their LHDs for F35B and V22. That still should be cheaper than phasing out fighters after paying a lot of money for radar and missile integration. If reliability or spares were an issue, that's a different case of course.

the russains did it with the yak 141 but that was a loooonnnggg time ago. now..........they dont simply because theres no need for it as they have no chopper or jets that has a jet exhaust against the ground.

as for treating specific spots. thats simply not possible as firstly there's no coating. secondly it would require a complete resurfacing. since the harrier can be launched via ramp and a pad the entire active grounds would need the resurfacing

As said, the USMC has already done similar on their amphibious vessels, because the F35B and V22 exhaust was a problem and they have operated sea harriers before too.
Also why would you need to modify the entire deck, when the exhaust will only be used in vertical landing and at the end of the ramp? Didn't the Sea Harriers even operated from transport ships?

the usmc has to have the entire active area able to handel the extream tempratures. the harrier problem is greater that the v-22 and in some aspects the f35b too as the main lift fan is powered by shaft from the main engine which blows cold air too also making it almost impossible for the engine to choke which the harriers suffered from.

the harrier can land and take off vertically but you dont find them doing that but mainly landing at a very steep slow approach assisted by the lift system same applies to taking of. why else do you tink our new carriers have ramps?
also this reduces stress on the surface significantly as its only briefly subjected to high heat.

yes harriers can land and take off vertically hence the ability to land on cargo ship but would need the resurfacing.
i honestly wont be suprised to find the type 45's being resurfaced whilst being upgraded/fixed, not sure if af35b can fit though

Supply issues of critical componants and materials at the early stages of construction delayed the project immensly, that would not be an issue when/if a sister ship is ordered.

    Bregs and SR-91 like this.

Vikrant is like a football ground sideways and upwards and electrical fittings and Air Conditioning and fire and safety takes time.
