I'm betting 2015 and the subsequent deliveries by 2018 and 2020, ever since Russia announced a delay in the delivery of INS Vikramaditya we have sped up the development of our Vikrant Class Carrier. I don't think Indian Navy will ever order a foreign carrier after this because the long development time will naturally increase the costs so it's better to build it ourselves and upgrade it from time to time.

yes you are right ... though I would like the private shipbuilders in India to pitch in collaboration with foreign ship builders ... that will speed up the process (RoI is always higher in pvt companies than public ones !!!) and foreign vendors would provide state of the art instruments.

INS Vishal is the second of the Vikrant class aircraft carrier(formerly Project 71 "Air Defence Ship").

Like the Vikrant, the INS Vishal will be built at Cochin Shipyard Limited; The keel for the INS Vishal is expected to be laid down in mid-2011 or early 2012. It is projected to be a 65,000 tonnes aircraft carrier, with a CATOBAR layout rather than the ski-jump layout currently planned for the INS Vikramaditya and the INS Vikrant. Reports have suggested that the Indian Navy has shown interest in implementing the use of the EMALS system developed for the United States Navy, rather than outfitting the INS Vishal with a conventional steam-powered catapult.

Like the two aircraft carriers scheduled to enter service before it, the INS Vishal is expected to carry MiG-29Ks, naval versions of the HAL Tejas and the Ka-31 Airborne Early Warning Helicopter. The Indian Navy has also sent RFIs to Dassault Aviation for the Dassault Rafale, EADS for the Eurofighter Typhoon, and Boeing for F/A-18F Super Hornet to meet the needs of a future carrier-based combat aircraft. Both Saab and Lockheed-Martin have expressed interest in the competition, offering the JAS 39 Sea Gripen) and F-35 Lightning II 'B' and 'C' versions respectively.

The INS Vishal is expected to be commissioned in 2017/2018.

This info only available. May be once Sea-Trial starts for INS Vikrant, May be afterwards any announced could come. But we need to have 3rd in order to replace INS Virat

Yes we do need it. In order to maintain two operational carrier battle groups at all times we need to have 3 carriers and after viraat retires in 2018 we have to find a replacement
