Proves eurofighter consortium is officially a failure and no one wants to leverage that for 5th gen fighter,

The Eurofighter was a Gen 4.5 or 4+ fighter. Like every fighter design, it has a life expectancy. You can't make a stealth aircraft out of a non-stealth aircraft, despite what the likes of halloweene, Pic-del and friends claim. Therefore most advanced nations are moving on to 5th gen aircraft, while France tries make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Similarly the MiG-15 was also phased out, doesn't mean it was a failure, just that progress moved on.

The Typhoon will still feature in UK service until at least 2040, but it will be complemented by 5th gen from 2018 onward and replacement and phasing out will begin circa 2035.

A Typhoon NG so to speak, would be so different to a Typhoon, that the name Typhoon would be pointless. Ditto for Rafale NG. You can't simply send these aircraft to West Coast Customs for a 5th gen body kit, it's not how these things work.

Without stealth back-up post 2020, the French should rename the next Rafale update the QF-4 package.

The question I asked was, there is no definitive 5th gen fighter in the works for EFC. If the EFC was going to be the prime contractor for all future European needs, a 5th gen project would be on the works - not the 'incremental' stuff but core next gen tech.

We would never wish to repeat such an inefficient partnership with such unenthusiastic and uncommitted partners ever again. Japan on the other hand has shown a keenness to innovate and develop aircraft technology and then there's France for FCAS.

The Typhoon could have sold much better, it was an aircraft with far higher basic performance than Rafale (and most things out there), but over the course of the last 14 years, there was an unwillingness to fund the development of avionics, EW, radar, A2G etc. and that's what scuppered it. And the fact one partner refused to agree to call it 'Typhoon' which left it with the highly uninspiring title of 'Eurofighter', which sounds like something you whisper to children to make them fall asleep.

no matter what the reason, you can agree therefore that the eurofighter consortium is a general failure. And that was my original point.

Oh yeah, sorry, I thought you meant the aircraft. The consortium itself was the pits. Worst partnership ever.

Cool...Japan and UK are both Technologically Very Advanced Nations...And I hope to see a worthwhile by product from their research.....

Also, The Chinese Navy is growing by the second....They are already bigger that the Japanese Navy...And By 2030 will perhaps be technologically and numerically more superior that the Indian Navy and The Japanese Navy Combined...

All the initial Reverse Engineering and Subsequent Research seems to be paying off...

And their Neighbours finally seem to be noticing it....
