Ladakh Adopts New Emblem Replacing J&K Logo

The Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) has decided to adopt an insignia similar to the national emblem replacing the Jammu and Kashmir's logo, drawing a sharp reaction from PDP which said it will strive to protect the state's unique identity.

In a unanimous resolution in this regard passed last week, the council adopted the symbol with the Ashoka Pillar which almost resembles the national emblem.

An LAHDC councillor said the decision was taken so as to give the emblem a more national look. Jammu and Kashmir has its own flag and emblem.

The councillor said the inclusion of the new logo will help in promoting the hill council as a unique political dispensation for the people of Ladakh.

Reacting to the issue, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said his government will take a decision after examining the matter.

"We are examining the issue. After all, it is a local municipality. Even the Srinagar municipality has a different emblem. We will examine the manner and take a decision," Omar told PTI.

Opposition Peoples Democratic party (PDP) termed the move to discard the state emblem by LAHDC as "unfortunate".

"PDP will fight any attempt to dilute the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under the Constitution. Leh is part of the state. The emblem controversy is unfortunate," PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said.

She claimed ruling National Conference has bartered away all the state's financial resources and institutions and there was need "to protect the unique identity of the state".

Mehbooba also said the PDP is fully behind the Private Member's bill planned to be tabled by party MLA from Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat for hoisting the state flag alongside the tricolour.

The 32-member LAHDC also passed a resolution for inclusion of Bodhi language in the Eight Schedule of the Constitution without any opposition.

Does this mean Ladakhis (at least a section of Ladakhis) want to delink themselves from the rest of the state in symbolic ways? Can't blame them for it!

Well this is a good move IMO. They want to be truly loyal to the country and by doing this, they have cleverly decided to move along with the country in growth rather than religious loonies in J&K who always seem to be on the edge of supporting independence or Pakistan. It will be great if Ladakh starts growing as a separate province in development and sends the message to the loser brigade in the mullah J&K.

With respect to first two comments... PDP hypocrites must first think whom their "Islamist" alignment is: independence, China or India with the kind of ridiculous map plans they drew.

Its a good move. If the people in Jammu and Kashmir have an unique identity, then the people of Ladakh have no less an unique identity of their own. Why should they be submerged or eclipsed!

    Excellent act.

"Disregarding the state flag is unconstitutional - PDP" .Werent these the losers who gave away parts of Aksai China and Shaksgam Velley to China in the ppt titled "Future of Kashmir" ?? Totally constitutional. Morons.

"This is a step towards total integration with India" - Made my day after the match.

Jammu should also follow suit and these separatist morons will be exposed.

yea separatist like to lie and overestimate its moral and social standing in J&K ,..but as a matter of fact they have non and the current few events were a byproduct of desperate measures via the fast loosing separatists/Pakistan mainly concentrated in the north wester region of J&K. Jammu should follow suit and gather pledges from local representatives so as to cover as much ground as they can to Isolate regions which are loyal to the separatist cause .
This will in-turn deal a major blow on there agenda to unite Kashmir hence loosing any social mileage they gained via the lying and protesting.
Lets face it these are weak shenanigans and lacks enough moral backing to generate an outcome..we need to suppress it fast and start on the uplifting of the fatigued people in that region . Once we give a person a reason to live and look forward to trust me this is gonna blow up in them separatist asses.
