    Unfortunately its so old that it can no longer operate fixed wing aircraft (the flight deck structure is now too weak) and only has a life as a helicopter carrier ahead of it. A replacement is 10-15 years away.

    KC-390 PROGRAM ADVANCES AND ITS FIRST FLIGHT IN 2014

    Embraer expects to see its first flight of the KC-390 medium transport aircraft by late 2014, officials said during a 26 March briefing at FIDAE in Santiago, Chile.

    The programme is currently in a detailed design and certification stage and the first prototype is now being assembled, Paulo Gastao, Embraer's vice-president for KC-390, said.

    In 2016 the company expects to begin delivering its first production aircraft, with the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira - FAB) as the first customer. Embraer and the FAB are negotiating terms and a contract is likely to be firmed up for the first 28 aircraft this year, Gastao added.

    He told IHS Jane's that the company believes there is an addressable market for more than 700 aircraft in 77 countries - mainly represented by Asia, Africa, and Latin America - for such a medium transport aircraft, and Embraer hopes to capture a significant part of that. Gastao said marketing efforts are not focused on any particular region, but noted that he does not see much near-term potential in North America despite the programme's connection with the United States' Boeing.

    Brazil selected the Swedish Saab JAS 39 Gripen E multirole fighter for its F-X2 fighter procurement over Boeing's F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet, but Jackson Schneider, CEO of Embraer Defesa & Seguranca, said there are "absolutely no links between one and the other" as far as the selection's impact on the KC-390 programme.

    Boeing and Embraer have a teaming agreement in which the US defence giant is to lead KC-390 sales, sustainment, and training opportunities in the United States, UK, and some Middle East market, while Embraer will manufacture the aircraft and collaborate on sales, sustainment, and training.

    Schneider said that other established teaming agreements for the programme created options for participants to be among the first sales. Although the FAB will be the first fleet, Argentina, Colombia, the Czech Republic, and Portugal are to be among Embraer's first sales, Schneider added.

    Gastao explained that the KC-390 offers a unique platform as most in the marketplace are built with turboprops, which are generally optimised for efficiency during take-offs and landings and for austere runways. He posited that jet engine technology has advanced to a point where engine cores are now protected from debris and particles, so Embraer decided to use International Aero-Engines (IAE) V2500-E5 turbofan engines in order to optimise cruising speed with a specific wing configuration.

    The KC-390 is to have a maximum cruising speed of 465 kt, carry a maximum payload of 23 tonnes, and fly at a top altitude of 36,000 ft (11 km). Gastao said that for the FAB this would cut flight time by 30% for key 18-tonne cargo missions between Rio de Janeiro and Manaus.

    The agreements in the aeronautics sector between France and Mexico will be the cherry on the cake of François Hollande’s visit to Mexico.

    Very nice but I can't seen how much export market it has as a military aircraft because of the twin engines. The risk of losing a engine due to foreign object ingestion or enemy fire results in a reduced payload capacity at all times. All its competitors have four engines.

    Maybe but the aircraft is designed with those possibilities in mind, and it is designed for small nations not big nations nations like Colombia or Argentina

    Bombardier’s new Learjet 45 will be presented in coming days at Guadalajara, Leon, Monterrey, Toluca, Veracruz, Hermosillo and Culiacan, the company Aerolineas Ejecutivas informed.
    Aerolineas Ejecutivas pointed-out that the model is an executive jet that incorporates cutting-edge design and technology, and offers Mach 0.81 (535 mph) cruise speed, the highest in its class.
    In addition, it has two engines and advance aerodynamics, including a new wing design, it carries eight passengers with a full fuel tank and its maximum operating altitude is 51,000 feet (15,545 m).
    “Which allows flying above bad weather for more comfortable flights and avoid delays from congestion at lower altitudes”.
    Aerolineas Ejecutivas states in a press release that Learjet 45 is equipped with Honeywell engines, requiring a shorter take off runway, making it an excellent choice for small airports.

    Airplanes will be assembled at the State of Chihuahua by 2023

    Resting on one same vision, the 35 companies certified in aerospace industry with presence in the State of Chihuahua, the State, Municipal and Federal governments, as well as education institutions and research and development centers —the so-called “triple helix”—are shaping Chihuahua as the main aviation industrial center in Mexico.
    Jose Luis Rodriguez Ramos, Chairman of the Aerospace Cluster, informed that the goals for 2023 are set on assembling a full airplane in Chihuahua, having a maintenance, repair and overhaul workshop for aircrafts and their structures, headed by large aeronautic corporations and consolidating research and development in this sector.
    Rodriguez Ramos cleared out that the prototype will not fly, but it is equipped to do it. “The main purpose is using it as a didactic instrument for students in aerospace careers”, he said.
