Mirage is a tested multi role air craft.LCA is a new kid on the block.for strike missions you always need an air craft which is agile and capable of take off with a certain weight configuration.the maximum take off weight for Mirage is 38,000lb,where as for LCA-tejas is 32,000lb.the point is mirage can carry more number of bomb's(various types) and is quite capable of multiple(in sight or co-ordinated location) bombing.again the speed of mirage and its rate of climb is quite impressive.the thrust to weight ratio is good which enhances the air craft to perform sustained maneuver. to drop a bomb an air craft need's to dive- in at certain altitude as soon as the bomb is released,it need to gain its allocated altitude(rate of climb comes into action).LCA on other hand is going to be one of the world's most agile fighter.very small to see in visual range ,very hard to lock on radar because of its delta wing which in turn restores its energy while banking sharply right or left. tailless to counter the drag.LCA is a very potent and efficient fighter no doubt about that.

I quite a bit echo veterans voice.
LCA can be a very good strike aircraft but in future nt now.
For now in its current configuration. It can best act as an interceptor and escorts.

LCA needs to have better payload for deep penetration strikes.
    Ability to carry nuclear wrheads.
needs better AESA, better thurst to weight and high agility when facing enemy air defense figheters.

Most of all very low RCS and LO features.
its unclear as of now as to why IAF has decided to base LCA squadron in Rajastan now.

But we can find it out if we look at the adjoining bases in and the kind of fighters they have.

But Iam not able to figure out what fighters they have in Bikaner , Uttarlai and phalodi..

I think they will be used to provide Escorts to deep penetration aircraft which will be there as well. Secondly it can play role of point defence very well too.

What ever I have read about Tejas is that its a Multi-Role A/C, replacing MIG-21 Bison which is a 3rd or 4th Generation fight and Tejas being a 4.5 generation with a Multi-Mode radar most probably ELTA-2052!!

I want the Tejas MK II to be the back bone of our Air Force with numbers. At least 300-350 of these beauties should be inducted.

But buddy FGFA is costly and can not inducted in numbers so numbers should be maintained by inducting large numbers of Tejas.
