    But you need EW suite to train! Basic training is done on an other plane.

    I don't know what they are thinking. But the trainers can carry older tech also.

    This is probably another RFP meant to serve as a negotiating tool with the Israelis, along with the radar. But it will force others to bring their A-game. So the Israelis will also be forced to release the best that they have.

    Thales may have something interesting to offer.

    So its 24+08+48 = 80 + 02( Two Prototypes would be developed for testing of AESA and EW )

    @vstol jockey @randomradio would tejas be receiving another upgrade in terms of FCS upgrade to expand its flight envelop further? We had an upgrade for the Bahrain show. Would we be having another upgrade to expand the envelope further for carefree manoeuvring before the FOC?

    This is some big news.

    Tenders have been issued for Parts of LCA MK2.
    1. Wheel and Tyresets.
    2. Pressure Valve Assembly for Braking.

    From the documents accessed this is the first official look into specifications of LCA MK2.

    1. Service Ceiling increased to 60,000 feet from 52,000 Feet.

    2. Airframe to withstand 10g in all directions.

    3. The valves should be certified to be used with Arrestor Hooks.

    4. Work on LCA MK2 prototype would start in 2018.

    5. Maximum Take off weight to be 15,000 kg, increase of 2,500 kg from LCA MK1A.

    As far as I understand not all aircrafts will be equiped with these external pods i.e. if there are 4 aircrafts in a formation the only one among them will be carrying this. So the number of pods can be much lower than number of aircrafts. Of-course each one of aircraft will be qualified to carry one.

    afaik mk1A will not have a internal ew suite becuz of lack of internal volume.
    So if these are podded jammers then afaik nobody acquires ew pods on 1-on-1 basis

    mk1A will not have maws aswell, without such defensive aids mk1A will be limited to defensive cap and cas and even for that we have no plans to integrate any lightweight pgm with mk1a

    members are also saying that mk1A will sport an Irst which i am again sceptical of , for it found no mention either in recent interviews of the HALs chief or any communiques.

    I seriously have no idea where we are headed with this program.

    1 silver lining is the safran upgraded kaveri which will not only boost indigenous content but also free up some of the much needed internal volume for critical stuff like internal ew suite and maws.

    15ton MTOW for Mk2 means an engine of minimum 60KN dry thrust.

    One of the requirements for Hydraulic Valve Assemblies , this simply means that LCA MK1 might not be a part of Navy [Which it never was meant to be ] , but MK2 is also out , is wrong. At least MoD and HAL are keen on a naval version of LCA MK2.

    Development of Mk2 will continue as is. It is meant to bridge the gap between Mk1/Mk1A and AMCA.

    It's just that the AF and N won't be buying it. HAL can always export the Mk2.
