Gripen-NG will have better range and payload capability than LCA but then we are also making MK2.

In theory, the reality is a bit different though. We know it has drag issues, because the wings are over designed and the air intakes had limited it's performance as well. And while the Gripen C is cleared for Mach 1.8+ , LCA MK1 was limited to Mach 1.6. That and the overweight reduced it's performance.

Gripe NG / E has even proven Supercruise capabilities, will be interesting to see if LCA MK2 catches up.

Just check out the empty weight of Gripen C/D and compare it with LCA.

It is where LCA was meant to be, that however has nothing to do with the fact that LCA has drag issues too. The Gripen C has even lower thrust than LCA MK1

LCA does not have drag issues for cruise, it has drag issues for combat. Its huge wing area is a problem for it. it has very good ITR but poor STR as a result of it.

remember, China is capable of building artificial islands to launch aircraft in matter of months. They have full capability to have landing strips in the TAR in matter of days.

about reports on engine problems on J-10s, they have overwhelming numerical superiority even on lesser systems. I am not saying they will rout IAF, but IAF needs to get its best game to halt a rampaging China. we only need to do that until Intl players begin to close the pincer on Chinese "aggression".

Python-5 CCM faces problems on LCA-TEJAS
    Published April 19, 2017
    SOURCE: IDRW NEWS NETWORK

Last year idrw.org was first to report (LCA-TEJAS Captured with Python-5 WVRAAM) that captive flight trials of Python-5 fifth generation Close Combat air-to-air missile (AAM) manufactured by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems of Israel have begun and thus marking the completion of integration and moving towards operational test firing of the missile soon.

But According to industrial sources close to idrw.org, Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) have encountered some problems with Python-5 which have prevented them to be test fired from LCA-Tejas thus leading to further delays in completing crucial Close Combat Missile integration with the aircraft.

As per information provided Python-5 CCM was not fired as the missile experienced vibrations at 0.9 Mach when in flight. Joint Indo-Israeli team are currently Analysing test results to find reasons behind vibrations and are working on ways to fix this issues.

Derby Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile also made by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems of Israel already has been test-fired in the unguided mode, successfully over the sea at an altitude of 30000 ft & 0.8 Mach to study separation and plume characteristics and are currently waiting further trials in Guided mode .
