Confirmed. It is the Tejas. Got a glimpse of it, couple of minutes back, flying low below the cloud cover while turning.

Safety of Margin 2.5 against 1.5, due to non confidence, as it is our first attempt to design and build. Choice of Material== Marginal Steel = Heavy = Cheaper in cost = 1.5 Ton. MK2 aka Naval LCA landing gear would be higher in length, and the Real Challenge for the Controlled Crash Landing operation for the Carrier, will give Confidence to the Designer.

Astra BVRAAM integration work for LCA-Tejas to begin soon.
Astra has Mach 4.5 speed with 40G maneuverability. It has both LOAL & LOBL capabilities. While Chinese SD-10, mostly used by Pakistani jf-17 lacks LOAL capability.

    Excellent,is this your own source??

If they can make sure that first mk1a comes with Uttam.I will forgive the recent 6 month delay (not more but 6 months for an indigenous radar is warranted in my fanboy viewpoint).

yes, I duly met with him today evening...

Both DARE's EW suite and LRDE Uttam AESA are pushed for testing on LCA.

It is safe to say that Early production variants that will be inducted will be GaA based and later upgraded to GaN correct?

Really don't want a situation that we have a production ready AESA BUT the powers to be suddenly decide to wait for the GaN

As India recently made its entry in GaN technology, it will take a lot of time to master it where as LRDE already have enough experience in GaAs Tech. Recent example is DRDO AEW&CS' AESA radar.
This situation is very unlikely. If UTTAM AESA & DARE's EW suite performs well with satisfactory results than they will scrap AESA & EW suite procurement tender.
I crossed by finger and hoping for positive results..

That depends on the cost of GaN modules, as we can see all over the world. Most fighter radars remain to be based on GaAs for cost reasons and it would be strange (but not surprising since it's India), if we use GaN on our least capable fighter.
Logically, Tejas should remain with GaAs, while GaN should be aimed on FGFA and AMCA. Both would have more use of that tech with their larger radars, while the costs could be down by the time those fighters will be available.

That's the ideal scenario of course, but it's not even integrated into the fighter and tested. So the test an certification time is the key issue, since LCA MK1A production can't wait again, for an Indian radar, which was one of the problems for MK1 delays as well.

The important thing now is, to get LCA inducted, not to maximise indigenous content. That can be done over the service life, but the more delays LCA has to face, the lower the chances for further orders.
