Perhaps not but it shows our displeasure and disapproval of their actions. It's all part of politics.

To improve their status/defend their rights...we need to look at other options.

LCH undergoing weapons integration: HAL chief

After the successful high altitude trials of the Light Combat helicopter (LCH) at Leh forward operating base in September, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is now working on integrating the weapons suite on the indigenous light combat helicopter. HAL has started limited series production and intends to manufacture five LCH helicopters.”LCH is ready, we are integrating its weapons, we tried rockets and it was good, we need to try missiles ATGM – anti-tank guided missile, (these) are the ones which we are integrating and we just have to demonstrate that,” chairman HAL Suvarna Raju said. HAL carried out hot and high-altitude trials of the third prototype of the indigenously developed attack chopper with the participation of pilots from the Indian Air Force and Army.”We have launched a limited series production, with a confidence and hope that we get definite orders on this. We have also inquiries on this platform from other countries, and so we will start making five helicopters this year,” Raju said. The chairman went on to add that the union government had given basic sanction for 173 helicopters for the Indian Armed Forces. “It has to turn into a contract between the Services and HAL,” Raju stated. The LCH made its maiden flight in May 2010 and has been developed after the Indian Armed Forces felt a strong lack of an attack helicopter during the 1999 KargilWar. The LCH is a derivative of the HAL Dhruv helicopter, and has been primarily designed for high-altitude warfare. Raju also said that the department of public enterprises had recently informed HAL to prepare for disinvestment of 10% of the shares. “We are preparing. It is a continuous process. As and when certain clearances are given to us and the ministry decides we will go ahead. The government has bought back 25% of its shares that is about 6,000 crores, which we paid as of March 31, 2016,” Raju said.

India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is working on integrating the weapons suite on the indigenous light combat helicopter.
HAL has started limited series production and intends to manufacture five LCH helicopters.
"LCH is ready, we are integrating its weapons, we tried rockets and it was good, we need to try missiles ATGM - anti-tank guided missile, (these) are the ones which we are integrating and we just have to demonstrate that," HAL chairman Suvarna Raju was quoted as saying by Times of India Monday.
HAL carried out hot and high-altitude trials of the third prototype of the indigenously developed attack chopper with the participation of pilots from the Indian Air Force and Army.
"We have launched a limited series production, with a confidence and hope that we get definite orders on this. We have also inquiries on this platform from other countries, and so we will start making five helicopters this year," Raju said.
“The union government had given basic sanction for 173 helicopters for the Indian Armed Forces. "It has to turn into a contract between the Services and HAL," Raju added.

    good to hear that..

Apaches - 2 with 1 longbow and 1 as cover
    and 10-12 LCH
You get amazing hunter pack there..

We need to get this contract signed and scale the production up.. 173 should take max 6 years if production rate is good.. or else this will take 10 years and will go slow..

HAL should be selling a package deal, including service/support contract of atleast 15 years.

Its well known what happened in Ecuador of after HALs contract came to end.

HAL is looking at manufacturing around 120 helicopters every year. “Space at the existing plant where we are doing research and development, production, maintenance and overhaul of helicopters is saturated. We need to expand to create at least 60 LUHs, 30 LCHs and 30 ALHs per year. This is the anticipated production rate for expected and projected demand. This requires a new complex,” he said.

Sir, I recently went through the whole Ecuador incident. Of the 4 birds which crashed, 2 were due to pilot error, the other 2 being mechanical failure which only happened after the HAL maintenance contract was over. If you go through the data of Ecuador AF, it is surprising to note that they don't maintain an impressive safety record.

    2009 - Human Error
    2014 - Human Error
    2015 - 2 x Unknown (Suspected Mechanical Failure)

As for the crashes that occur after maintenance contract, it is the responsibility of the operator to ensure proper maintenance of their aircraft. Ecuador had opted for a short maintenance contract to save money and the entire contract was billed at $45 million (USD). The length of the maintenance contract is always the choice of the customer and the manufacturer can't dictate the terms.

P.S: I'm not stating Dhruv is an excellent platform, but it does the job for the check you pay. Indian designed aircraft were not exactly famous for being 'maintenance-friendly' in the past, but lets just hope that things get better in future?

Let me cross post something I said in another thread regarding the same issue.
