Was this engine zeroed in because of the TVC requirement? Or were there also other factors that helped it over M88, F414EPE and others?

The design is unique and it will be remembered as a marvel of Indian Frugal engineering skills just like Mangalayan mission. The development budget of this aircraft is lower than that of Tata Nano car. for just INR 1700 crores, we will have a stealth aircraft ready for induction in IAF and IN.

TVC, SFC, Size and very high dry Thrust. LSA will not need reheat thrust for over 95% of its flight envelope at 30k feet. The aircraft is designed for 6G sustained turning fight at Mach 1.5 at 36k feet.

Indigenous fighter aircraft to be a reality soon, says Parrikar - Times of India

India may be able to develop its own fighter aircraft with the help of indigenous and foreign technology in the next four to five years, Defence minister Manohar Parrikar said on Friday, while stressing on curbing the dependency in import in defence sector. "In four or five years we could develop our own fighter planes with the help of a mixture of indigenous and foreign technologies," he said.

Parrikar was in the city to launch a three-day annual technical festival of IIT Roorkee, which started on Friday.

Addressing the students, Parrikar said that under the 'Make in India' initiative, the focus of the government is to reduce the burden of import to a "noticeable extent" through the use of indigenous technology. The minister appealed to the "bright minds" of IITs and other areas to integrate themselves and give their services to the defence sector.

"Bright minds from IITs and other areas should integrate themselves with the country's defence sector and render their services to DRDO-like establishments to make the 'Make in India' campaign successful through your 'out of the box' thinking, creative ability, innovation and engineering knowledge," Parrikar said.

The minister said that people from industry, academia and technology-developing fields could be integrated with DRDO like establishments. "My first priority in this direction is to make a hassle-free and non-bureaucratic system for getting the entry in DRDO by these people," he said.

"We have earmarked over 120 items of defence requirements which we can be developed with the help of indigenous technology," the minister said.

On the occasion, the institute's chairman of board of governors Ashok Misra, director Pradipta Banerji, former chairman of Atomic Energy Commission PV Athawale, former Air Marshal T Suvarna Raju and defence journalist Ajai Shukla were present on the occasion.

Pls read the last part and that makes it very clear that he is referring to LSA. right now, MOD is busy trying to figure out how to make LSA in India as there exists no set up to allow people like me to be co-opted in DRDO.

There's enough information for it to deserve its own thread.

LSA fuel fraction is 0.37 which is same as F-35 and compared to 0.33 of Rafale. LSA will out range Rafale in any role/configuration.

A total of 7.5 tons of payload on six internal, eight external including wingtips and two CFT stations. LSA will have Litenning NG pod converted to chin EOTS as has been confirmed to me by Israelis.

Wow. 16 hardpoints. You've beat both MKI and Rafale. You have most likely matched the PAK FA also. At least in air to air payloads. Can't wait to see this new jet.

I always wanted LSA to be able to fly with CFTs all the way to Beijing and strike it using long range missiles. And also to act as escort for SU-30MKIs. U might remember the old elephant formations of India wherein the horse riders used to accompany elephant to prevent any one coming close to them till they reach the enemy ranks and after that elephants used to crush the enemy. LSA will clear the path for SU-30MKIs and fight any enemy fighter which might cum up to target them.

    But won't CFTs reduce performance?

In stealth mode, CFTs will provide additional 1.5 hr flight time to LSA. Its normal cruise speed will be around 0.93M so it can do a return trip to Beijing from NE India bases. LSA will not need air strips for operation. it is designed to operate from roads and grass strips. CFTs will not effect its performance.

And can you tell us something about the Israelis also? Like will they assemble the jets in Israel or will they be made in India?
