Spectra NG / Also, I'm not mistaken the OSF is the IRST equivalent on the Rafale.

With Pakistan joining China's camp do you think it's inevitable for India to join hands with US one day or the age old formula of non- alignment will work here too. Given the fact that the next big world conflict might just be in our neighbourhood.

Definitely designed for higher range. My sources tell me in the 800-900 km area. The ER is to be tested in phases with expanding range regimens and attack modes. It has already begun recently. I don't see this taking more than a couple of years, given how interested the three services are in the platform.

That is true, however the later models of OSF of French AF Rafales do not include IRST (only the TV sensor).

@DrSomnath999 Was wondering if IAF Rafales will include IRSTs too as standard.

First of all welcome to the forum Shiv!! Secondly thanks for the replies to my previous questions.
The stance of the current (BJP) government is significantly different from UPA government when it comes to Pakistan and Kashmir issue.
However, despite this change in the stance of our government, the hostility continues.
How much of a difference has the change of government made?

Given the current situation, should India try and escalate the situation? That brings me to a related question about our IAF, where you said that the number of operational squadrons is a cause of worry(our FGFA programme is yet to take shape and no idea when India will get the Rafales), is India prepared for a full-fledged assault on Pakistan?

What do you think about the planning of IN, when it comes to Air craft Carriers? There has been reports of engine issues with Mig29k..... What do you think about the air wing of IAC 1? I mean the combination of jets

Major war/conflict remains a remote possibility, thankfully. Pakistan isn't just 'joining' China's camp -- they're very strong, old partners in everything from trade, to defence to dirty nuclear proliferation. For all the denials, the U.S. strongly sees India as a counter to China in Asia and increasingly in the Asia-Pacific. But there are complexities for India. Personally, I don't see any concrete alignments of the kind you're suggesting. Remember the U.S. relationship with Pakistan too.

Changes from previous government: As mentioned before, a marked punitive attitude on the LC. On Kashmir, sadly, this government like the earlier ones has got caught in a rut of tensions where terror groups, Pakistan and competing political interests have been allowed to dictate the narrative. It remains to be seen if political will can back some of the more aggressive stances taken by the government in Kashmir -- the recent human shield incident and its handling, a case in point.

One of the biggest problems with Rafale-M and F-18SH is that the air wing strength on both the carriers will be reduced. in any Navy, we try and have largest number of aircraft on deck. No Fleet commander will ever accept a reduced air compliment. even in France they are already debating the impact of reduced air compliment on CDG carrier effectiveness. remember Falklands and Battle of Midway. Larger air compliment is always a plus for a CBG. Finally its the numbers that count.

The IAC1 is the focus now -- everything hinges on getting it right. And in many ways, that's the only thing the navy can only focus on. The IAC2, as mentioned in a previous answer, is nothing more than a shadow hull. Propulsion not decided, launch config not decided. And these two decisions will dictate the way forward for propulsion of both carriers and submarines remember (on propulsion). Many pulls and pressures involved. Navy hoping to iron them out and hammer it down in a couple of years, hopefully.

IAC1's air wing will be MiG-29Ks. That's locked. If the LCA Navy Mk2 can fight back successfully, it could have a chance.
