It is cheaper & more effective to build roads in border area. Our armed forces are stupid to spend 4 billion USD on buying C-17 to transport equipment to border but do not want money to be spent on building roads.

Developing a gun in 2015 which is marginally better than a vintage piece from the 1970's is nothing to boast about or even noteworthy.

Dhanush will be more than 12 tonnes. It cannot be transported to border regions.
Even if it is taken apart and sent in tiny pieces then in war these guns will be stuck in one place. IA soldiers are meant to fight battles not sit around and assemble/de-assemble artillery guns.
M777+Ch47F will give IA the massive tactical and strategic edge it presently lacks pretty much turning the tables as it multiplies IA war fighting ability. It will turn the MSC into a deadly strike force giving us advantage in war.

Chinook should have much more than 90% availability like other western aircraft in IAF inventory.

    All thanks to Manohar Parrikar.

the range of M777 will beless than 60 km

so we willbe sending 20 chinooks underslung M777 to enemy which is less than 30Km away

we will also overlook deployment of S300 S400 systems & other mobile air defence systems by the enemy

    we are buying 145 M777

how many chinniks will be required to tranport 2 battries in time effective manner along with required crew and ammo stock ?

plus these are towed / slung typw means chinnoks will be exclusively attached to these batteries to move them from one position to another as road s will not be there

Its better than doing nothing and just importing.

So you want India to buy expensive guns & more expensive helicopters to carry them to mountains. And what would be the result during real war. They will be easy practice targets for Chinese air force before they land in Himalayas. Doesnt common sense say that you save money on foreign guns & helicopters to build roads in Himalayas. Even Pakistan has better road network in POK.

Let me list you types of transport planes/helicopters Indian armed forces will have

    1. Cheetah
    2. Chetak
    3. Dhruv
    4. Mi-17
    5. Ka-226
    6. Ka-29/31
    7. Mi-26
    8. Chinook
    9. Sirkosky
    10. Sea King

    11. Dornier
    12. Hawker Siddeley
    13. An-32
    14. C-130
    15. C-17
    16. IL-76
    17. C-295

India wants to fight a war or set up a museum of arms to display to world.

Actually most forward areas are already surveyed for deployment of arty but at times enemy may surprise by taking a route which you thought did not exist. it is for such contingencies that you need Arty which can be heli lifted for deployment. You may remember the Battle for Rezang La where our army cud not be provided arty support.

You buy 5 million USD howitzers. Then you buy 50 million USD helicopters to transport them. Its better to buy LCH in numbers to provide support to infantry.

Just bcoz a helo can operate in high altitude does not mean it can be used in combat on that altitude. LCH can't operate at the altitude of Rezang La and the Himalayan heights are even higher in central sector.

BRO is already building roads although they are behind schedule.

The IA has not inducted any new howitzers for 30 years so the M777 will be a welcome addition.
The Ministry of Defence and the Indian Army are more aware of the needs of MSC than you "an online ranter" would be.

Something which the Govt and AF's plan for which is why Parrikar has gone the extra mile and procured the M777 guns which UPA opposed tooth and nail.

first of all the arty function remains most the same the only rapid change has come in firing accuracy and range enhancement and precision striking its design may be old but its still as leathel as it was , as you forgot Indian army opposite to other DRDO products is largely happy with new dhanush gun . they want them to induct it as soon as possible . and remmber in kargil which has as high peaks as in China sector Bofors killed the maximum no of intruders If u rember . and as u said M777 and Chinook . as far I checked Chinook project start in 1962 or so? And you saying dhanush is old design . i posted that video see that first.
