Amid increasing protests across the nation over Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmavati’, the Madhya Pradesh government on Monday announced that they have decided to ban the film in the state. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the facts based on Queen Padmavati have been distorted and thus the movie will not be allowed to be released.

    He said,

Etihaisik tathyon se khilwaad kar agar Padmavati ji ke samman ke khilaaf film meindrishya dikhaye gaye hain, uss Film ka pradharshan”

After Madhya Pradesh, ban in J&K?
Furthermore, NC leader Devender Singh Rana has written to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti seeking a ban on the film.

In his letter, the National Conference leader wrote,

“ I request you to kindly order the ban on the release of the feature film "Padmavati" in Jammu & Kashmir till its contents are verified and the various religious/community groups are satisfied that the feature film is not likely to hurt the sentiments of the people.”

Meanwhile, on Monday, the CBFC turned down an application by makers of the film seeking to expedite Certification process of the movie. The CBFC said that the movie will be reviewed and certified as per set norms of following the chronological order of all applications.

The film starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor has been in the centre of controversy for a while now with various fringe groups claiming that it distorts facts. While the film was slated to release on December 1, Viacom18, makers of Padmavati, on Sunday, confirmed that they have voluntarily deferred film's release date.
