NEW DELHI: The Central Information Commission (CIC) has asked the defence ministry to make public the document chronicling the history of Indian National Army (INA). The draft, which traces the evolution of the Azad Hind Fauj — formed by Subhash Chandra Bose — has never been made public and is just another example of the lack of a comprehensive declassification policy within the government.

The document, commissioned in 1950, records the INA's history between 1942-1945. While this document was declassified some years back, the government has not made any attempt to make even excerpts public. In fact, the defence ministry had refused to make the report public under Right to Information (RTI) on the plea that it would hurt the economic interest of the government which planned to publish the document. RTI applicant Chandrachur Ghose, in fact, was forced to submit an affidavit saying the information would only be used by him in his personal capacity.

I doubt that it will ever come out... They dont want the truth to come out, anything that is related to SC Bose is still mystery.

Don't think anything will be exposed soon. Primarily because it is/was a political "hot potato". Subhash Bose was an unrelenting (but dignified) critic of Gandhi and Nehru and most of all he had the ability to carry a sizeable group of the Congress (though not a majority) with him.

Did Bose need to carry the majority of a single party with him when the people were with him? Question to ponder is why was Nehru and the gang so hell bent to keep him out of India. Simple answer, they were AFRAID, VERY AFRAID, that their precious power game will fall apart if BOSE came back. BOSE was so popular then (you can see how popular he is now and can only imagine back then what was the case), that he could master support wherever he went - India to Afganistan to Russia to Germany to Singapore to Japan.

As far as Congress party is concerned, it would have split in two if he was back as he had demonstrated twice before when he defeated Gandhi's chosen candidate twice in the inter-party elections.

The fact is Bose is such a character that it invokes fear and trepidation in the minds of ruling elite till today. Hope by the end of my lifetime I would see the mystery resolved as his present day relatives as well as his daughter Anita Bose Pfaff have all dismissed his alleged death in the plane crash theory.
