I doubt they're too happy with the mig29k else there wouldn't be a need for a new tender.

But this is also a fact that in recent Malabar exercise, not even one mission was cancelled for any issue whatsoever. IN maintained 100% mission rate.

Even if they like it, a tender helps to reduce procurement costs, same reason why the SSK tender, includes the same Scorpenes we already have. Plus it gives you a good look at what alternatives are on offer, for example if F35s would be on the card, which is the most likely reason why the RFI wasn't specified to twin engine fighters only.

Russians have ensured that no other aircraft is able to operate from either of the two carriers except Mig-29/35. The minimum landing weight requirement for Svetlana system is 12 tons. Rafale-M will have to come back and land everytime with about 1.5 tons of fuel in its tanks as ballast to meet this requirement. Russians will not change the system for any other fighter, instead they will withdraw their guarantee for the carriers and ensure that they become junk. They are willing to modify the system only for an Indian made aircraft and that too only after few more aircraft are ordered from Mig bureau.

The Mig-29Ks are old of course. The IN needs next gen aircraft. And it is highly likely that the Mig-35K will qualify.

The IN can in fact milk Mig. They have that power. They have to ask for Russian Navy prices and free ToT for the spares of engine and airframe since it's an old aircraft anyway.

Given the restrictions of RGS and lifts, only MSA qualifies as on date. I am very sure of getting an audience with NSA next week after the parliament session ends and 15th August celebrations are over. I spoke to his office even today and was informed that he has kept the request pending in his own office and I should wait to hear a final word from him. The gear on IAC-1 can be replaced by AAG any day. And AAG has no restriction of minimum landing weight. But its lifts have the problem. MSA fits in both the carriers provided the Svetlana system is cleared for 7 ton aircraft. IN did tell me that they had asked for this change and Russians did say that it can be done. IN wanted it for N-LCA. Today my aircraft has flown with X-Band AESA radar and its final version-MSA in addition will have L-band AESA, OSF, ASPJ, 360* Active MMW MAWS+passive MAWS+DIRCM and 360^ radar coverage with ability to shoot down targets behind it without the need for buddy targeting.

100 F-35 B's would be good for the IN.

60 for the carrier and 6-10 for the LHD.

course it's fools gold at this point.

The IN issued the RFI, its a standard procedure for the information gathering process. What you are reading and making the impression from the media reports citing some unknown source, officials, officers etc and could be the paid propaganda published by some of the aspirants OEMs, specially the one, who had kept his office open in the Delhi even after it lost the MMRCA and still trying hard or some back channels and is dying to partnership with any Indian firm to get the order.

What you always fails to understand completely and ignored is the fact that India is only dealing with the Rosoboronexport, Russia and could not contact the OEM directly be it Mig, Sukhoi or any other Russian OEM.
