Livefist doesn't even hide it anymore; for the longest time they had an open advertising spot on the website, now that spot has been filled with a "Dassault Rafale for India" graphic.

But for the most part I've found him to be a pretty decent source.

Rear Admiral S. Ahuja, Asst. Controller (Carrier Project) flew in both the Rafale B and Gripen D at AI-17. Thanks to Livefist for images & news.

On twitter, Saurav Jha is probably the best & most reliable...at least he's not a foreign stooge/sellout.

However he is very nationalistic & I personally think he has too much faith in DRDO/HAL-type state run agencies.

Hahaha yea, I began following him and got the same impression. But as you said, at least he's not a foreign stooge with an agenda.

We all know that the Rafale M will in all likelihood win this contest.

But I was also reading articles not too long ago about how we were looking into possibly purchasing or building some LPDs/Helicopter carriers. And @Hellfire told me at the time that they were for a Marine force that could be used for quick reaction and power projection in the IOR, he also mentioned that we could end up purchasing V-22 Ospreys for the Marine force which would be based off of those carriers.

In that context, is there a possibility that we may end up purchasing a small amount of F-35's for these platforms? Especially since the Harriers have been retired now and we no longer have any combat aircraft with VTOL capability?

F-35 is a long shot. I doubt the purchase of the same.

How is Rafale exactly confirmed? The RFP isn't out yet, the trials aren't done yet and finally the competitive bids (pricing, TOT and MII ) proposals are far from ready. Expect this to run for another 3-4 before any decision is taken.

The F-35, they don't want competitive bidding. And they will reveal the most classified info only 'after' we have purchased them or signed an agreement that guarantees a sale.

Its logical. Just like the time when IAF released MMRCA RFI. IAF wanted an improved Mirage 2000 then.
Its quite clear that IN want double engine jets and it want its to operate it from STOBAR and CATOBAR. Also, all major military procurement are linked with Make in india.
Now you tell me, Which fighter have a better chance?

First of all, stop spreading the story that LCA (MK2 specially being developed for carrier operation and Indian Navy)have been rejected by the Indian Navy. It is LCA MK1 based on LCA trainer in its current avtaar.

Second MK2 is not ready, and it is in the development phase, and right now extensive development and testing of the landing gear is going on. So no question of its rejection since it is still on paper yet.

Third, the RFI issued by the Indian Navy means RFI simple aka the information gathering process from various OEMs about their offers and product details and specification.

Forth their is no SEA Gripen yet, and is not too far away from the LCA MK2. Problem with the Naval variant development is that, their will be not much order as compared to the Air force variants, and needs extensive and specific testing place including shoer base stobar rig and carrier, which SAAB is thinking to get from the India, otherwise it have to invest with its own pocket to acquire/rent.

Fifth even ADA/HAL can respond to the RFI call of the Navy, with IAF order book to show them. The home solution would be cheaper, more customizable and should be given more preferences.

When did IN says it wants exclusively twin engine jet then ADA have to switch to Honeywell's F125 . Twin engine requirement for reliability was at that time, when the turbofan engines were not equipped with digital FADEEC for accurate control, and health and condition monitoring in realtime. F35 is a good example of single engine fighter jet also being developed for Naval operation.
