Very possible but is the supply of Sherpas that limited that they are unable to meet the modest needs of the NSG? Or alternatively is the NSG that desperate for these platforms that they would go for 2 different products just to get them quicker?

@Vergennes any idea what the production capacity of Renualt Defence is for the production of the Sherpa-2?
A good question, apparently these F550s are for anti-Hijack missions which would put them under 52 SAG's control and AFAIK 52 SAG is only based in Delhi and doesn't deploy to any of the hubs. Whereas the Sherpas are for both 51 and 52 SAG so the Sherpas would be deployed to hubs also with the F550s only being found in Delhi.

A very decent observation that I hadn't thought about! Certainly, the Sherpa-2 would be a more suitable frontal assualt platform for this reason which increases my curiousity even more as to the role the F550s were bought for.

I highly doubt this, the training with international partners was mostly only for state police forces AND fully paid for BY the state, they weren't training packages/aid from other nations. Indian forces don't accept "freebies"/donations.

Only hope that we get a decent answer to why the F550s were brought ..... ELSE someone made money out of this deal

I wouldn't hold my breath, these kind of "minor" deals (a few dozen vehicles) are considered insignificant by the esteemed Indian media and thus the right questions will never be asked. I am certain that 99.999999% doesn't even know the NSG has an anti-Hijack role let alone has assualt platforms like the Sherpa and F550.

Does NSG even have any female personel anymore? I remember there was that pr iniative/"trail" of 4 women for SRG but they were never deployed, with the deputation nature of the NSG, they must have left the force by now- has the NSG replaced them?I'd say it's doubtful.

Yes they do have Women personnel

National Security Guard plans combat roles for women

The National Security Guard (NSG) is gradually increasing its contingent of women commandos and planning combat roles for them.

Speaking on the sidelines of the NSG’s 31st Raising Day celebrations in Manesar, where women commandos put up a show of their combat skills, NSG DG RC Tayal said, “Women commandos have gone through the same training as men, and can perform any task under the mandate of NSG. We are planning combat roles for them.”

Sources said the NSG plans to put its women contingent in the same roles as elite forces in the US, Germany and Israel. It could, however, take some time to give them top-notch combat roles, a source admitted. “We may not initially use them for a frontal attack in a hostage situation. But they can be used as snipers to assist operations,” said an officer.

Successive NSG chiefs have repeatedly said that women commandos are as good as their male counterparts, but the ground reality is different.

BSP chief Mayawati and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, who were given Z plus security of NSG women commandos in 2012, are now guarded by male Black Cats. NSG DG RC Tayal confirmed, “We have no VIPs under the protection of women commandos.”

ALSO did remember this, as we know that NSG is unfortunately a fashion statement among the politicians , but having Women protecting women is not it

Jayalalitha, Mayawati say no to women commandos

NEW DELHI: The National Security Guard on Tuesday for the first time showcased its women commando unit — trained in all forms of combat and ready to take on all contingencies. The government, however, is in a fix on how to use these commandos after former UP CM Mayawati and Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalitha refused to have women as their 'shadows'.

Sources said the 25-member unit was raised to provide VIP security. "It was envisaged that they could be used to guard women VIPs who would feel comfortable being guarded by female commandos," said an official from the security establishment.

However, Mayawati and Jayalalitha, who have been accorded Z+ security with NSG's Black Cats guarding them, did not show much enthusiasm for the new plan, sources said. Both are still guarded by NSG men.

Security attachment for a VIP is decided by the Centre on the basis of threat perception assessed by intelligence agencies. There is no official provision for VIPs to decide what kind of security contingent guards them.

Sources said the force's women commando unit has been raised through the same training as that of male commandos and has all the skills of their male counterparts.

Not surprisingly, the force chose to showcase their skills on the 28th NSG Raising Day parade at Manesar on Tuesday where, in a counter-terror mock drill, female commandos slithered down a rope from an aircraft and raided the drill premises with their guns blazing.

Praising the unit, NSG DG Subhash Joshi said, "We do not discriminate between men and women in our force. Our female commandos are as good as our men and will be put to all duties as and when the time and requirement arises."

Sources in the home department, however, said that given that they were raised with VIP security in mind, their training would have to be recalibrated to see if they can be used in anti-terror operations. The force is undecided over it.

Meanwhile, the Centre has extended Z+ security cover of NSG commandos to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. Sources said Akhilesh will have round-the-clock mobile security of 10-12 'Black Cats' after the Union home ministry decided to extend the elite security cover to the CM based on the threat perception about him.

Akhilesh's father and Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav already enjoys NSG security.

Sorry but this is total cr@p, women will only be in the SRG (deputed from CAPFs) as the army doesn't have females in combat roles hence the SAG won't be open to women at all. It is SAG that undertakes combat/assualt/hostage rescue/anti-hijack operations within the NSG only, SRG are almost entirely devouted to VVIP protection and some support roles for SAG so it is impossible to say the NSG will deploy women for combat/assualt/hostage rescue/anti-hijack operations- most men in the NSG aren't even trained in that (SRG is a larger force than SAG).

Like it said "we know that NSG is unfortunately a fashion statement among the
politicians , but having Women protecting women is not it"

In the end , we might see women trained for VVIP just for keep up with appearances , BUT their nos. will be keep very low and with no deployment in sight ... that is just sad

I'm not going to get into the merits of having women in the NSG (SRG) or not but it is a fact that the NSG (SRG) is being moved away from VVIP protection duties bit by bit, since 2014 the number of protectees under its cover has dropped by almost 30% and the GoI is on the whole adhering to their agreement not to add any new protectees to the NSG's list, instead providing specialist teams from other CAPFs. As such, SRG is going to gradually shrink with a re-balancing within the NSG in favour of SAG and their orginal mandate (CT/CH).

I'm happy to see that other CAPFs are happy to step up to fill the void and are raising fairly competent close protection teams.

Never seen this method of infiltration- fast roping behind a barrier/wall using an aerial assualt platform, very clever!
