New "Xianglong" Strategic Drone exposed in Chengdu

2011-06-30 (China Military News cited from China-defense-mashup) -- According to some westerm resources, the Chengdu Xianglong UAV has completed its high-speed taxing test in October 2008. However recently a new exposed drone tells us that China is expanding its UAV family rapidly. In the Chinese Internet picture, this new unmanned aircraft has a diamond-shape wing structure. In 2006 Zhuhai Aie Show, China once displayed one similar model, which also called as "Xianglong". This situation also perhaps means that there is a drastic competition on the Project of high-altitude, long-duration UAV for China's strategic reconnaissance.

The function of this UAV is Reconnaissance and surveillance, Damage assessment (?), intelligence and information relay. So it is not an attack UAV. It seems really big and heavy (7000kg and 650kg payload) for given function.

One can guess it increases the overall lift surface, allowing it to remain airborne for long time. It won't fly very fast but will have a long of endurance (I guess)

Feels too heavy to be unarmed... well maybe they are trying to have more systems and avionics for better Reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence and information relay
    :)

Good for china, We need to develop the capability to counter it and rather denying it's presence or performance.

But we are also in right track with our various UAV projects

but in the image it shows RANGE 7000 KM ? but what about endurance (No of hours it can stay in sky ?)

well i think WS-10 is not providing required performance thats why chinese ordered 123 AL-31s from russia recently and as far as WS-13 is considered it is still in trials with a FC-1......regards
