Our old Ruski bear is certainly not very happy with Americans swimming in dried lakes there:biggthumpup:
Norway is now a nuclear target over US Marines posted there, senior Russian politician warns
‘How should we react to this? We have never before had Norway on the list of targets for our strategic weapons,’ says Frants Klintsevitsj

Norway is now a nuclear target due to the deployment of 330 US Marines in its borders, a senior Russian politician has warned.

Frants Klintsevitsj, the deputy chairman of Russia's defence and security committee, told TV2 Norwegian citizens “will suffer” from US military presence in the country.

Mr Klintsevitsj said: “This is very dangerous for Norway and Norwegians.

“How should we react to this? We have never before had Norway on the list of targets for our strategic weapons.

“But if this develops, Norway’s population will suffer.”

The US troops will be stationed in Værnes, around 1,000km (600 miles) from the Norwegian border with Russia.

Refuting the angry Russian reaction to the deployment, Norway’s defence minister, Ine Eriksen Søreide said: “There is no objective reason for the Russians to react to this.

“But the Russians are reacting at the moment in the same way toward almost everything the Nato countries are doing.”

Norway, a member of Nato since 1949, has long held large amounts of US military equipment in tunnels dug into mountains.

I have a box of tissues around here somewhere. Hold on, I'll find it and send the Russians a few.

We've always been a nuclear target because of our position as the vanguard against Russian activities in the North Atlantic and Arctic. With intelligence assets trolling Russian waters, radars with ranges of over 7000km probing their airspace, their ports under constant surveillance and a shared border, not to mention that the Americans have been on Norwegian soil for decades... but that's only just annoying the Russians? Right. The Russians are 90% hot air. Kind of like the Chinese and all their warnings against India.

It's not like Russian nuclear capable platforms aren't already in the area. This Delta IV was photographed in October 2016 by an RNoAF P-3C as it was transiting the Barents Sea.

Sandefjord Airport, Torp, which is just a few minutes away from where I live, was built to accommodate nuclear capable aircraft. It also has facilities to house, maintain and launch nuclear weapons.

The Russians will have to excuse me if I don't sound very concerned, because I'm not.

The bear is starving, so one needs to be very careful. And for India, the 'middle kingdom' is reclaiming it's 'rightful mandate from heaven'. Interesting times ahead, perhaps too interesting.

Its not just Russia alone. You have to look at bigger picture here as to all of sudden Russian are going so aggressive to NATO and Middle East and at the same time the new rising superpower is aggressive in South China sea as well as Indian ocean and simultaneously.
Moreover they are opening new fronts at Afghanistan with the help of proxies.
    Something is cooking for sure

They're just doing what they and the Americans have always done, albeit with newer parties like India and China involved too - asserting themselves where their rival is weakening to create divisions and improve their own standing. The US is bogged down in Afghanistan, Russia can make sure they bleed more. The US waivers in its interest in Syria, Russia is exploiting this lack of concrete plan. The US is losing the Philippines, Russia is make overtures. Russia angered Ukraine, China and the US are making a move. US commitment to Europe is uncertain, Russia is actually helping them in this particular scenario. Threatening Europe ensures European nations increase their strength and readiness while further entrenching the Americans. It's the same geopolitics that we've seen for the past 80 years, just with more dimensions and players.

Of course the game is not one-sided and for every move Russia makes the other side makes one too.

Lithuania isn't a Nordic country. Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Norge, Aland, the Faroe Islands, Denmark and occasionally Estonia, those are the Nordic countries.

However Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are parts of the EU's NBG.

    Pictures aren't loading.
BTW I think main problems with Baltic states is their small size compared to gigantic Russia.
Why don't they merge to form big states?

They're 3000x2000 pixels - I typically resize them to keep their size under 1mb, but still retain HD quality - so try refreshing your web browser. Or if you're on mobile, try using a desktop. I can see them either logged on or logged out, so the issue isn't with the archive or pictures themselves. They're just very big, most of the Danish Armed Forces pics I'll post will be.

Just one question. Who pays for the stationing of the US armed forces in Norway?? Is it the Norway's govt or its the Pentagon??
Don't you think Norway is more of a target for Russia/China because of the presence of US marines in your country.

True they are small, but they are supported by the larger NATO group, as each is a NATO member state. Individually they are no match for Russia and regardless of NATO would face a likely overwhelming force, but their militaries are modernizing and adopting leaner, more rapid tactics employed by the US and Western European nation, which makes them more effective at countering recent movement in Russian tactics such as hybrid warfare and para-assault. Their cyber capabilities could stand to be upgraded as well and lag far behind Western Europe.

While they are modernizing, and even after, NATO is providing support, such as Norway's Telemark Battalion and the USAF in Latvia.

Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 also provides support in the Baltics. This contingent is from the Mine Countermeasures section.

The Baltic nations are small, but they're supported by some heavy hitters.

Unfortunately for the Baltics or any union plans, history tells us that when people develop a sense of national identity they rarely want to relinquish it. At one point during their history Denmark, Sweden and Norway were in unions with one another. The Union between Denmark and Norway, the Union between Sweden and Norway and the Kalmar Union with integrated the three nations under a single banner.

None exist today because each nation developed its own sense of self and each peoples sought to be free from rule by those they considered outsiders, though ironically Norway's first king following independence was a Dane.

As I stated since most Nordic countries are highly developed (Norway is most ?) . and a constant Russian threat looming aroing . you people do have highly advanced defense forces. All you lack is manpower and bulk where Russia trips. Plus being more advanced you have more to loose. Whereas Russians are already nearly broke so they show aggression every now and then.
All Russian fear are NATO treaty and Uncle Sam's wrath:mrgreen:

    @Fenrir

As usual, great stuff and amazing pictures.

@AbRaj The states here have a loose confederation if one was to look at the level of cooperation and synergy. Better than our states I daresay.
