Mounting a scathing attack on the ‘minority appeasement’ policies of the United Democratic Front (UDF) government and distancing themselves from accusations of perceived communalisation, leaders of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam and the Nair Service Society (NSS) on Friday decided to take their unity efforts to the next logical stage of ‘majority community unity.’

Power was in the hands of three minority community Ministers and the majority community was forced to flee the land on account of the blatant policy of minority appeasement followed by the government, said NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair and SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan at a press conference at the NSS headquarters at Perunna.

Mr. Natesan was on his first visit to Perunna after Mr. Nair took over as general secretary last year. The two leaders had an hour-long one-to-one talk at the NSS headquarters. Incidentally, Mr. Nair’s first visit after taking over the mantle was to Kanichukulangara, Mr. Natesan’s residence.

Mr. Nair said the unity of majority community was the need of the hour. This should not be on a communal platform, but on pure secular platform. “We do not believe in infringing upon the legitimate rights of other communities, including the minorities. However, we cannot be mute witnesses if the rights of the majority community were infringed upon by any other sections,” Mr. Nair said.

Mr. Nair pointed out that attempts to drive a wedge into the unity efforts, by exploiting the reservation issue, would not work any more. “The NSS has made a major turnaround in its policy by withdrawing all cases. Instead, we have sought the support of the SNDP for our efforts to get benefits for the financially backward among the forward communities,” he said.

A united effort on the part of the majority community could change the present situation, according to Mr. Natesan and Mr. Nair.

It was the actions from the part of those in power which had forced the majority community to come together, they added.

When they joined, there were some serious efforts to break them apart. Hope all Hindu organizations join & fight against the minority appeasement policies & Love Jihad.

Wow. Congress might actually do some good at the end of the day, inadvertently ofcource. By inadvertently being the reason that'll unite everyone and put an end to Divide and Rule and thus, putting an end to congress, and also beginning the chapter of agressive and vigorous unity and mixing between different communities. Wow. It'll be a serious exothermic super-volcanic chemical reaction that'll churn out the real essense of India like the ancient people churned out amrith.

These organizations joining was long overdue. The power is in the hand of Minorities right now and they are misusing it, to put an end to it Congress mustn't be voted to power again.

You never know. NSS and SNDP uniting maybe something. But remember there's 30% muslims in our state. They'll only vote for congress. It's easy to get a 20% from others through misinformation, propaganda and such. There's alot of unaware people in our state. I mean, everyone I meet and try to convince in Kerala was a congressi untill I talked to them. There's a good chance the Christians will vote for congress. That's what 8%?? I don't know. We can't say. You see how Modi is being defamed by media. Let's hope negative voting works. But there's still people preaching Congress. We can't say.

This alliance is the result of Love Jihad & misuse of power by Indian Union Muslim League, a Congress ally & Communal party.

    Ruling front on the defensive

The NSS-SNDP Yogam combine appears to have left the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) leadership reeling with their joint onslaught over what they perceive as its policy of communal appeasement.

Clearly flummoxed by the severity of the attack, which began with NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair and his SNDP Yogam counterpart, Vellappally Natesan, holding a joint press conference on Friday and the former following it up with a renewed tirade against Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala on Monday, the Congress leadership is finding itself at a loss of words. And, clearly relishing the difficult position in which the UDF finds itself, the Left Democratic Front (LDF) leadership has been quick to mount an attack on Mr. Nair and Mr. Natesan.

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan and CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan did not mince words when reacting to the outburst of the two community leaders, but not so the Congress leadership.

Although Mr. Chennithala sought to play the entire issue down stating that the UDF leadership was ready to discuss any grievance that the NSS-SNDP Yogam leadership may have, Mr. Nair was quick to reject it, making it all the more difficult for the UDF leadership to reach out to the leadership of the two organisations.

The UDF leadership’s silence in the face of such ruthless attack itself has come in for criticism from the LDF leaders. It is not that the leadership of the two bodies have not been critical of the UDF leadership, but the intensity of the attack now and the way they have focussed on particular individuals in government have left many wondering what two community leaders are angling for. The LDF leadership sees it as a clear bid to create a sharp communal divide and has warned the UDF leaders against remaining silent in the face of such provocation, but so far there has been no response to their call from the UDF’s side.

The UDF leaders had adopted the same stand when the Left came up with sharp criticism of the Sivagiri Madhom authorities’ decision to invite Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and honour him at the Madhom over a week ago.

Although Mr. Chennithala voiced his criticism of the move, Mr. Chandy was quite restrained in his response. The strategy appears to be same in the face of the NSS-Yogam assault.

DCC move: SNDP to wait, NSS acts tough

    Resignation from corporation, board posts

Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan has said that a decision on the resignation of SNDP leaders from various corporation and board posts will be taken only after knowing the Congress and UDF take on the Alappuzha District Congress Committee’s controversial resolution.

Talking to reporters after a meeting of the SNDP director board here on Monday, Mr. Natesan said that the SNDP members who held such posts had already handed over their resignations to him. If the Congress does not take a favourable decision, they will put in their papers.

Mr. Natesan said the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) should make its stance clear on the resolution of the Alappuzha DCC and the statements of DCC president A.A. Shukoor ‘belittling’ NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair and the SNDP general secretary.
    May meet Sonia

The SNDP will complain to Congress president Sonia Gandhi about the resolution and the statements. All the nine SNDP unions in the district will send in 1,000 fax complaints per union to Ms. Gandhi.

‘‘Also, SNDP leaders, after consultation with the NSS, will meet Ms. Gandhi to lodge a complaint,’’ he said.

Mr. Natesan said a defamation suit will be filed against Mr. Shukoor.

‘‘He (Mr. Shukoor) has been hunting down me for the last many years. However, no leaders, including the KPCC president and the UDF [United Democratic Front] convener, have contacted me on the issue,’’ he said.

Mr. Natesan said the SNDP would show its strength in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Replying to a question, he said that he did not think that Mr. Shukoor had made the statements as prompted by the KPCC president.

‘‘But Mr. Chennithala remains silent on the issue. Even Union Ministers Vayalar Ravi and K.C. Venugopal do not speak on the issue,’’ he said.

The meeting demanded that the government allot higher secondary schools and colleges to the SNDP Yogam and the Sree Narayana Trust in places where it did not have such facilities.
