I agree with you. Its difficult to take a break once you start reading it. Its a wonderful book and I must say @SHIV AROOR has a done a great job. I wud love to see it on screen and I have even the names ready of the actors that I wud like to play various roles. Adm Rana-Ajay Devgan/Rana Duggubati/Kay Kay Menon.
Akeela-Tapsee Pannu. Vikky-Akshay Kumar/Shroff. SS-can be converted to a male character. PM -Paresh Rawal/Anupam Kher.
The author has full liberty to write what he wants and has done a great job. I must say, it makes a gripping story. However, if it needs to be adopted for making a film, I wud like following changes,
    • The character of Rana shud be shown as a Cmde in-charge of MARCOS who were first on scene in Taj in 2008 and as a Vice Adm in 2016 as in-charge of SFC-Special Forces/Strategic Forces command.
    • In Indian Armed forces we do not allow direct combat to anyone above the rank of Col/Gp Capt/Capt. Only in IN a CO of a ship who may be equivalent to a Cmde/Brigadier/Air Cmde can take part in direct battle and that includes our fleet commanders of the rank of Rear Admirals because they command the fleet.
    • The wreckage of AURA to fall within India considering that the paradrop was from 52K ft which allows nearly 70Nm insertion in enemy territory. The book states that the point of engagement was close to LOC.
    • I wud like to see in the movie the exchange between Pak PM and Indian PM as being very cordial in international forum as has already been depicted in the book. But once Indian PM gets the info that mission is a success, he releasing the transcript handed over to him by US President while still in air for India.
    • I wud like to see in the movie that once successful recovery of Varuna is told to PM of India and V Adm Rana, Indian SF going all out to protect their exfiltration route and IA opening up its biggest guns to silence any PA resistance to that route. Including MBRL and 155mm guns in direct firing role. A nation possessed to protect and bring home its daughter. That's what is the main theme of the book when Rana is told by PM that she is not your daughter but our citizen.
    • I wud like Indian PM to fly home from westerly direction with USAF fighters escorting Air India-1 till Jap airspace and thereafter a refuelling halt in Japan and escoreted by JSDF fighters to be headed down to Phillipines and escorted by IN Mig-29Ks from INS VIkky sent with maximum despatch to escort protect and support Air India-1 finally emerge in Indian Ocean air space protected by IN Fighters and safely taken over by SU-30MKI from Andaman Command. This move is to ensure that Pak is not able to interfere with the movement of our PM.
    • Indian PM declaring an all out war on Pakistan by making public the tapes handed over to him by US President and also letting the world know that it was US president who gave the tapes.
    • No chopping of hand of Varuna, instead a very strong support as we have been trained in such first aid. nearly all of us as officers have done that.
    • V Adm Rana giving away the hand of his daughter to Vikky, just to add some drama. You saved her, you have her kind of stuff.
    • Akeela having a very timid kind of boy friend who is always telling her that women are Lakshmi of the house who must think about rearing children only and she telling him, women are also Goddess Durga/Shakti/Kali and the guy accepting it finally.
These are my suggestions for adopting it as a Bolley/Holley wood story. I have nothing against anything written here as it connected me to my old days in IN. We do have very high capabilities to do what has been described in this book, but how do we find such a PM?

@SHIV AROOR, buddy a great job done considering a very large part of the book is in first person account. Those who know English well, will know the meaning of what I have written here.

I loved the character of the sniper the most, not hard to guess why ;) , but I'm not revealing the reason to those who haven't read the book as yet. :)

Just got through reading my copy of the book. Certainly one for the legends.

Hope for the sequel soon. Wonder what becomes of SS now that she has stuff missing without which she cant handle a sniper rifle.

In such ops, losing a wepon is not such an important issue as getting the job done is. In any case I wanted the role of SS converted to a male lead considering that she/he was a transgender made in to she.

She lost body parts not weapons.

I don't want to give too many spoilers. But without those body parts nobody can handle a rifle again thereby making them of no value in combat missions.

In movie she would remain she ?
but in sequels perhaps it may change.
