Pakistan students face stricter visa tests
    By Hannah Kuchler and agencies
Pakistani applicants for visas to study in Britain will be interviewed face-to-face after concerns that up to 40 per cent of applications from the country could be bogus.
The government is considering extending interviews to applicants from 14 other countries including India, China and the US, where pilot schemes are already under way.

The crackdown comes as a report released last month by the National Audit Office said weaknesses in the UK’s student visa system may have allowed up to 50,000 people to enter the country to work by posing as students in one year alone.
The pilot scheme in Pakistan, which ran from December 2011 to February of this year, found many of the applicants to be students had limited English language skills and some had suspect qualifications and insufficient funds to support themselves in the UK.
The new credibility test could boost the rate of refusals from 20 per cent based on paper applications to more than 40 per cent.
Border Agency officials will interview applicants by phone or face-to-face at their regional offices in Pakistan. The agency will have to meet the cost of the scheme from its existing budget.
The Border Agency was criticised in a report by MPs earlier this week for not being able to “fulfil its basic functions” of tracking and removing illegal immigrants, overstayers and bogus students.
The drive to cut the number of student migrants will cost the economy £2.4bn and result in 273,000 fewer student visas over the next five years, official estimates showed last year.
Universities have already raised concerns that restrictions on foreign students could undermine Britain’s higher education sector.
Universities UK, which represents Britain’s higher education institutions, warned that genuine students could be deterred from Britain because of the interviews.
“It is important that the UK remains open and welcoming to those individuals who are genuinely committed to coming to the UK to study at one of our highly regarded universities,” it said.
“International students contribute massively to UK universities, both academically and culturally, and contribute over £5bn to the UK economy through tuition fees and off-campus expenditure. This is a success story for the UK, but there is no shortage of global competition.”

This is a smart move by the UK will go a long way in reducing mediocre students and crime.

    little out of topic but

i think that if we have to take care of the illegal bandaladeshis then we should pick them up and use them as cheap labors in infrastructure developlment
they should be used like slave, with only food as their incentive. They should be given an option that if they want then they can return to their country.

It sounds harsh but it is the most effective way to control the morons,if we don't do it now then 10 years from now there will be a seperatist movement going along

    More sh*t after 10 years of sh*t.

This war is a failure and strategies like this are a failure.

Way to be counterproductive. Now what where they thinking, by alienating Pakistanis, they'll reduce extremism?

    Height of stupidity!

Rewrite it as 'South Asians'. US and other western nations have gone way too far in disrespecting our people too. "maybe Just because we send potential terrorists". Heck even the Missile Man of India wasn't spared, if i remember it right.........

The West is suffering from huge Islamophobia after 9/11. Nowadays every muslim or Arab on a plane is treated with suspicion.

    Sir,
Now that is not efficient to Pakisthan which has proved his point. They know that pakisthan can not do anything.
    and
India could become a global force, So India's response is to listen to all countries.
