Pakistan test fires multi-tube stealth cruise missile

Updated at: 1330 PST, Friday, October 28, 2011

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan on Friday conducted successful test fire of an indigenously developed multi-tube having stealth capabilities Cruise Missile Hatf-VII (Babur).

Babur has a target range of 700 kms, said ISPR in a news release here. The missile test was conducted to validate the design parameters of the weapon system and a new Missile Launch Vehicle (MLV).

"Babur Cruise Missile is low flying, terrain hugging missile with high maneuverability, pin-point accuracy and radar avoidance features.

"It can carry both nuclear and conventional warheads and has stealth capabilities. "It also incorporates the most modern cruise missile technology of Terrain Contour Matching (TERCOM) and Digital Scene Matching and Area Co-relation (DSMAC)."

A special feature of Friday's launch was the validation of a new multi-tube MLV during the test. The three tube MLV enhances manifold the targeting and deployment options in the conventional and nuclear modes. With its shoot-and-scoot capability, the MLV provides a major force multiplier effect for target employment and
    survivability.

The test was witnessed by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shahmeem Wynne, Director General Strategic Plans Division Lieutenant General (R) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Commander Army Strategic Force Command, Lieutenant General Tariq Nadeem Gilani and Chairman National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) Muhammad Irfan Burney, senior officers from the armed forces and strategic organizations, scientists and engineers.

The test will consolidate country's strategic deterrence capability and further strengthen national security.

The successful test has also been warmly appreciated by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani who have congratulated the scientists and engineers on their outstanding success.

NESCOM developed it themselves. Of Course I cannot guarantee that there wasn't any assistance what so ever.
Remember that Tomahawk wreckage that was seized by the authorities in 1998? that had a hand in development too.

Low observable.... stealthy would mean to the level of 5th gen fighter stealth, but some measures such as an airframe with a neat RCS profile, low flying and low speed would make Babur LO.

Well we've all heard of the QING Class sub deal, they might use Babur-N, if not they will use Chinese cruise missile, likely CJ-10K.
As for PN ships.... this remains unclear.... Babur is not much bigger in length then C-802 ASM on PN's FACs.

If you add the booster Babur becomes 7m in length and remains 50cm in diameter.
the weight of Babur is much larger then the missiles on PN's FACs but that should not be a problem.

IMHO you'd need to adapt the length if necessary, or the booster to minimize any alteration of the airframe of CM itself, and also foldable wings, which probably already exist.

So likely Babur N will be for PN's subs, but it could also be used on Pakistan's FAC's.

Babur is developed by NESCOM. If you have any issues, please contact NESCOM, they will put you through immediately. :rolleyes2:

Hello mate, good to see you here...

Is this then conformation of TERCOM/DSMAC? this has been shady throughout, I have no contact from anyone from NESCOM or any real time knowledge of them.

    your views?

Don't ask so many questions , it is just written in user manual and they published without changing a word. If u want answers better ask the manufactures. one more thing BABUR is purely indigenous.

I would like to see a model of the Turbojet used in Babur.

2001 after US initiated the WoT beginning with a massive cruise missile assault on Afghanistan, it is believed that a few cruise missile fell on Pakistani territory unexploded, it is believed that GoP have collected those missiles and gave it to PRC to further inspect and analysis their composition and construction, something which the Chinese are reputed for, i.e. copy. As Pakistan have a very primitive knowledge in Aeronautical engineering it would not be possible for Pakistan to learn metallurgy composition to make a copy cat missile, so it is believed that PRC helped them, those might or might not be reported to media but when US slaughtered OBL in Abbottabad the left behind debris of the stealth chopper was reported to be shown to Chinese authorities. Pakistan have never proved any major break through in aeronautics to indigenously build a turbojet engine, and as a fact it have never revealed any model in any defense expo about it, maybe it is direct copy of Tomahawks turbojet design.

Currently no Pakistani Ship use a Babur Cruise Missile, it is under development,
Pakistan use cruise missile in their boat which are less then 300km as per MTCR restriction
Pakistan cannot buy an Chinese alternative of Babur Cruise Missile because although PRC is not a signatory of MTCR, it abides by the rule and the rest of the world wont spare PRC if it do not and sell that kind of military hardware in open.

Could be for both, since canister stored Systems require
    lesser maintenance and last longer

Not to the level of pure stealth, no...
    Tomahawk like stealth.

However with that said, Ra'ad CM is stealthier then Babur, so you could well see some improvements in later models of Babur.
