    MIRV opens its heat shield only after entering the earth atmosphere at a height of about 30kms. Above that it must prevent its warheads from being cooked up. If you can shoot down a missile above that height, it makes no difference whether it is MIRV or single warhead missile. PDV will take out everything.

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi today hinted that India may have successfully developed a 'THAAD-type anti-missile defense system.

    Speaking at an election rally at Budaun in Uttar Pradesh today, PM Modi congratulated Indian scientists for developing one of the best missile defense systems at a time when a number of countries, including Pakistan, are busy developing missiles.

    PM Modi said that the new system has been successfully developed by Indian scientists and it can destroy any incoming missile at the height of 150 kilometres. “I want to congratulate Indian scientists,” he said,

    Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system is one of the recent addition to the US’ anti-ballistic missile arsenal. It has been designed to hit missiles as they dive towards the earth, not when they go up. THAAD can engage with incoming missiles at the maximum altitude of 93 miles above the surface of the Earth. It seems Indian scientists have also developed a similar anti-missile system.


    PM Modi didn’t give much details of the new system. However, he took a dig at the opposition parties by saying that the latter would now ask for “proof” about the new system. Earlier, the opposition had asked for proof of the Surgical Strikes carried out by the Indian Army on terror launch pads in Azad Kashmir on September 29.

    During the speech, PM Modi also attacked the Samjwadi Party-Congress alliance for the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections and said that SP government has made UP unsafe for women.

    In December last year, Pakistani army had claimed to have successfully test-fired an enhanced version of an indigenously-designed cruise missile that couldn’t hit targets at 700 kms with all kinds of warheads, bringing many Indian cities within its range. Called ‘Babur’ after the Mughal invader, the missile is part of Babur Weapon System version- 2 and is an enhanced version of the earlier missile, said a PTI report.

    The US has announced it would deploy THAAD in South Korea to neutralise the threat from North Korea’s alleged Nuclear ambitions. However, this decision has irked China and become lead to a rupture in Sino-US relationship.

    Even thaad doesnt have range of 150 km....i think they will test for 150 in future

    One THAAD interceptor weigh probably 20℅ or even less than prithvi based BMD & it's more sleeker , faster & maneuverable & likely Carry one of the most advance seeker Technology ever developed.its cansteriz & can carry more interceptor in one TEL & yes it can hit at altitude up to 150 km. There is no comparison

    India Successfully Test Fires Exo-Atmospheric Interceptor Missile

    At 0745 hrs today, India successfully conducted a test wherein an incoming ballistic missile target was intercepted by an exo-atmospheric interceptor missile off the Bay of Bengal.

    With this commendable scientific achievement, India has crossed an important milestone in building its overall capability towards enhanced security against incoming ballistic missile threats. It has entered an exclusive club of four nations with developing capabilities to secure its skies and cities against hostile threats.

    Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar lauded the efforts of the DRDO and all the scientists involved for their dedicated efforts in this significant achievement.

    The Technology is called 'MIRV'...
    Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry vehicle....

    Isn't every warhead encased in its own RV....!?

    If the seperation was below the atmosphere...It wouldn't have been called 'Re-entry' vehicle right...
    The Technology would have just been called. 'Multiple Independently Targetable Warheads' (MITW)...

    There are two versions of it. One is what you have written and other is in which they separate after entering the atmosphere and target different areas. The one which you have posted about is the case in which each warhead separates in the space and enters the earth atmosphere at different points with separate trajectories. They are all re-entry vehicles with own heat shield.

    The target missile was a Dhanush people.

    A Dhanush achieves an altitude of 50Km normally. But the target missile was modified to achieve an altitude of 150Km, which is the altitude of MRBMs.

    One moot Question.

    Can we integrate all our SAMs, Like, Akaash, QRSAMS, AAD, PDV, PAD, Barak, Barak-ER, ASTRA based QRsam and all other missiles plus mobile radars to make formidable BMD like S-300, S-400 or S-500 system?

    We can integrate them to share data. We already have the IACCS for that. But we cannot unify them completely like the Russian SAMs.

    The Russians use one radar family with multiple missiles. We use multiple missiles with multiple radar families. So one SAM cannot use the radar of another SAM to engage a target. But if a target is detected, the command post(CP) attached to the radar can transfer that data to other CPs, so the radars connected to the recipient CPs can look for the target.

    Theoretically, we can unify them completely, but that requires a lot of money and testing, not to mention some very difficult negotiations with other companies and countries. Instead it is better to make our own unified system in the future.

    They will have to claim some first of kind in world technology for it now.

    No existing technology in world can escape our Exo atmospheric vehicles!:D
