Rafale's prospects in India is extremely good. It's much, much higher than Gripen's.

Why political reason ? If India was the first (so waited) export customer, why not. Not when you are the third.
View from the french side, it's better to deliver 36 plane than 18 and another 108 on CKD with all the difficulties imaginable.

UAE ? they were closed a Rafale deal, after that closed a EF deal, now russian one... A joke. Reality is that they don't need new fighter so far. F16 bk 60 will be usefull in case of a war in which USA find an interest (in Lybia it was not interesting USA, so they made difficult the disponibility of UAE and Egypt F16 ...) and in any case (with or without US approval) Mirage 2000-9 are perfect.

Chinese drones.... OK. but who is the customer? Saudi Arabia. When you see they were the sole export customer of a marvellous BS called Tornado ADV, you understand they are all but serious.

NO. IAF don't want a SE. They want more Rafale (or Rafale like. And Gripen E is not a Rafale like. It's a F16 like).

And main interest in MMRCA was in air to ground role. For AtoA India have a lot of Su30.

Thats coz, except Iran, rest of Gulf countries, use aircraft purchases as a means to get strategic security from buyer. hence it traditionally meant US, but increasingly countries like UAE & Qatar etc are looking at India to provide it security cover, in region.
Hence Rafales/Gripen E planes sale to India under MII, will have that much more significance & will translate to off branching to Gulf for sure.
With India getting 7+% consistent GDP growth for long, this effect only increase over time..

First choice is Rafale and second is Gripen. But IAF will settle for Gripen MII if they get minimum number of Rafale.

No, for the IAF, the first priority is always air to air.

If that's the case, they will end up buying LCA.

Tejas lacks a center frame pylone, to accomodate for exemple 2 LBG like that : [IMG]

with that : 2 WRV missile, 2 BVR missile, 2 tanks, 1 laser pod, 2x250kg guided bomb.

Maybe SU57 has more brighter chances than Mk1A(more of a demonstrator till resolve hardpoints issue), not to forget Rafale MII..

Saudi lead collation, will have to think really a lot of time before taking military action against Qatar, as Qatar has a security agreement with Turkey & India. Meaning any military offence on Qatar will require India to send its Navy etc for Qatar protection & India bound to protect its ruling Family.
This generally on the other side of fence (Turkey/India), with Qatar/Russia (Turkey S400 deal) as common friend is lead to some sort of improving defence relations between Turkey & India.
    http://www.firstpost.com/india/erdo...ey-relations-in-a-changing-world-3414524.html

If Qatar didnt have security agreement with Turkey & India, it was game over for them - logic is very clear survival

Didnt NATO countries follow same logic in Cold war era & ended up buying USA stuff. Gulf counties are as much without logic as European counties have been in past. All comes down to survival threat.

Similarly, if Rafale MII comes, expect UAE to buy Rafales, sometime in future, for similar reasons.

Hence if Rafale messes India deal, it will effect its chances in Gulf & ASEAN too, weather French like it or not.

Yup. If that was available, we wouldn't need anything except 250 LCA and 90 Rafale for now.

That will be a very expensive and unnecessary future. Make a new aircraft instead.

Unlikely. They were complaining about lack of stations for the ECM pod. There won't be any space on Mk1A.

And the landing gear has taken up all the space in the center.
