Except it isn't particularly stealthy and can't jam AESA.

MICA IR has no greater range than ASRAAM. In fact CAMM(A) has 25% further range than MICA VL.

Pls read the LSA thread. For last three years I have been stating a need for a stealth aircraft to accompany stealth bombers into enemy territory.
Bro, I am not a fool and every aviator of India irrespective of his seniority has been defeated by me in air combat. I have never been defeated in air combat by anyone in India except for Late Air Marshall K G Bewoor who was my instructor and taught me air combat. I defeated him also and he was such a fine man that I will bow to him before I bow to my father and my Gods.
French Know about Sqn. Ldr. K G Bewoor as he was amongst the first lot of M2K crew trained by French and he showed his prowess and skills even to French who were highly impressed with his ability as a pilot and also his knowledge of electronic warfare.

:rockroll:ASRAAM don't have thrust vectoring and the range is 50 km compare to 80 for MICA.

I think what Vishnu Som said is correct, because @CNL-PN-AA also said the same thing, that the 18 options will be the Rafale-M. That IAF order ends with 36.

There is no mention of Indian Russian wapon integration as part of this deal - maybe articles missed it

Well the deal has been signed - now like it or not is immaterial

And I still don't like it as I still feel it is costly

And when I say it is costly it dosent leave much scope for corruption

Also with still lower prices there is no scope for corruption and benefits to congress or aap or even bjp

Including 2 meteor and 2 scalp with each rafale dosent make sense or useful or a neat weapons package

It is just an eyewash to lower deal price

One of the tech which is part of Offsets is ramjet and dual pulse motor for missiles with thrust vectoring. This tech will help us become independent in missile tech and we won't need to import A2A missiles in future. Our domestic products like Astra will be more than sufficient.

Why does it take 66 month to deliver 36 plane

When w were crying on HAL which promised earlier delivery even in case of rafales and lca?

    WAs criticism of HAL justified

I also opposed the Rafale deal for being costly but once I got to know the complete offsets deal, I became a convert. Cost is an important factor but it must be seen in its entirety and not just piece meal.

France will deliver them earlier than that. The time frame specified in the deal is the outermost limit.

On the information we have now, its looks a good deal for India. I believe VSTOL Jockey, there will be more orders for the Rafale, I can see an aircraft carrier force for a start. No matter what China and Pakistan may claim, the Rafale, Meteor and SCALP is a far better combination than anything they have.

This is good news for everyone except Russia .. and for that I am very happy.

Surely if you need a stealth plane to accompany a bomber, it needs to have good range, which a Light SA will not have. I think what you really need is a hypersonic interceptor with a mix of AAMs and ARMs to plough the bomber's path beforehand.

MICA is also rated at 50km and 20km from ground launch.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MICA_(missile)

    http://www.mbda-systems.com/camm-solution/camm/

ASRAAM does not need TVC, it can already turn at the same 50g as the MICA without it and continue to do so after the boost phase is over. The P3I ASRAAM trialled TVC but the turn became so fast that it snapped the fuselage.
