I only notice that the competition is no longer between the F-16 and the Gripen but that TEs are back. It was an essential point of your reasoning.

HOSAPETE: Congress president Rahul Gandhi today intensified his attack on the NDA government on the Rafale fighter jet deal, alleging it was the "biggest issue" of corruption in the country now.

Launching his party campaign at Hosapete in poll-bound Karnataka's Ballari district, Gandhi alleged that Modi had "personally" changed the contract during his visit to France to give it to a "friend", and said the prime minister had not answered the three questions posed by him on the deal.

"Today Rafale aircraft is the biggest issue of corruption in the country.

I want to tell a few things about this to you," he said launching "Janashirvad Yatra" of the ruling Congress in the state.
Gandhi said, "Modiji had gone to Paris in France. In France Modiji personally changed the contract."

He said earlier the Rafale contract was given to defence public sector undertaking Bengaluru-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), which has been making aircraft for the Indian Air Force for 70 years.

"If Bangalore is on its feet today, one of the reasons for it is HAL. Modiji took away Rafale contract from Bangalore and HAL and gave it to his friend," he said.

"We have asked three questions to Modi - Modiji on what basis did you give the contract to your friend after taking it away from HAL, for what reason? Why did you take away the future of its youth from Bangalore? Why did you do this to profit your friend?

"Second question, did the price of the aircraft increase or decrease in your new contract?

"Third question- when you took this decision in Paris and when India's defence minister was buying fish in Goa- did you take permission from the Cabinet Committee on Security? Yes or no."

Gandhi said Modi spoke for an hour in Parliament on the motion of thanks to the President for his address but did not utter a word about Rafale.

In his speech, the Congress chief accused the BJP-led central government of failing to deliver on its polls promise of generating jobs.

"Modiji speaks about corruption. The world record in corruption was broken by his party's government in Karnataka," he alleged referring to the B S Yeddyurappa rule in the state.

The BJP, which is going all out to unseat the Congress rule in the state, is projecting Yeddyurappa, who had quit as chief minister on graft charges, as its chief ministerial candidate.
On a four-day tour, Gandhi will cover Ballari, Koppal, Raichur, Kalaburagi and Bidar districts in north Karnataka, addressing public rallies, holding roadshows and interacting with farmers and others.

Lol, that's not how you or Dassault advertised it all these years and if it's only independent with ASMP, it can't be for any export customer, since ASMP is limited for French forces only.

So far there is neither an official cancellation, nor any official announcement on the new tender. But I still don't get your point, essential for what reasoning?

 The BJP did the same in 2013 and you even have BJP ministers on record after the PMs Rafale deal, that they are against it.
That's politics and since the PM remains silent about his shady deal, the opposition can use it for their reasons of course. Nothing special about it, the only problem is that he is pushing on corruption, rather than pointing out the losses for the IAF and the industry with that bad deal, or the losses for the forces with all the cancellations, delays and the crappy defence budget.

In France Itar free is mandatory for all strategic weapons so Rafale is ITAR free, but almost all weapons we develop are also ITAR Free, the problem is only when a weapons is developped in cooperation because sometime we cannot impose ITAR Free approach.

But on the Scalp I think the component is a FPGA, it will be easy to replace, I think it would have been hard to replace at the begining of the program but now with the increase in performance it will be easy.

So bottom line is, it's not as independent as you claimed before. Not that I would bother about it, since that probably might not effect India, just correcting your earlier advertisements.

I cannot take into account all weapons Rafale can carry! I suppose some GBU are also submitted to ITAR rule... it's not significant.

IAF need a lot of plane:
    • Currently they operate 32 Squadrons and they need 42.
    • They will retired at short term 11 Squadrons of MIG 21 ; 23 ; 27
    • They only bought 36 Rafale
So they are in a hurry but there is election soon which block all processus. They have try to launch a tender for single engine MMRCA (to be cheaper than Rafale) but it has failed and now they will try for a MMRCA tender with single engine and twin engine. It seems that Rafale is the favorite.
In the meantime IN have issued a RFI for 57 planes able to take off from STOBAR and CATOBAR the competition is between F18-SH and Rafale -M. Rafale seems to me the favorite again.

    You are 100% right.
With US products you have the choice between a old product (F16), a lazy product (SH18) and a non use product or only if USA agree (F35 with ALIS).
Rafale is perfectly fitted for India.

Order more Rafale and save the IAF from paucity of credible potent fighters. No other fighter at this stage makes sense as it will take hell lots of time
