[IMG][/IMG] Rafale order and production on French Wikipedia

From my point of view it is false because there is already one Rafale for Qatar which is testing. So there is certainly production in advance for Qatar during 2015 and 2016 (5) and then possibility of 3 for India in 2018.
Also after 2019 the rate for France could be as low as 6 (real need) and will be 11 only if there is no more export, so after 2022 . (with 45 more Rafale MLU)

Follow on order options are 12 for Qatar and 12 for Egypt, but it seems there is discussion for more Egyptien Rafale. Also UAE seems to want 60 Rafale but it's not urgent because they are very satisfied with their Mirage 2000-9 which are relatively new!

The Egyptians have a Mirage 2000 squadron, now almost around 3 decades of rigours operations they will surely look upon additional Rafales only , I won't be surprised if its 18 more too from them.

About Qatar , any idea what would they are planning to do with their Mirage 2000s?

It's not what was seen during all encounters.
Rafale has less power, but is lighter, Rafale has a far more aerodynamic config (including close coupled canards).

Well if the IAF goes for their orginal MMRCA total (126 units) as well the follow on clause (63 units) that is 189 Rafales right there and the IN has a requirement for at least 80 by 2028. So 250-270 could be the total Rafale fleet in India. Even if 100 or so are ordered off the shelf form France there is still a HUGE outstanding demand that can be made in India.

@Picdelamirand-oil @BON PLAN what is the projected combined French Rafale fleet size?

+ @PARIKRAMA @Gessler @Ankit Kumar 001 do you guys think the IN would go for the same specs as the IAF for their Rafales or would they ask for a IN-specific upgrade of their own? If they go for the IAF specifc upgrades the $2bn cost spread out across the Indian fleet would only ammount to $10m per a/c as opposed to the current $55m per Rafale!

I don't think IN would be interested in any modification besides the more powerful engine (which could already come with IAF Rafale).

Rafale is easily the best STOBAR-capable fighter operational in the world today.

Surely the IN would want HMD and Litening G4 intergration also? The more powerful engines are a given for them.

Yes. And of course the other modifications which would be specific to Indian Rafale (save for IAF-specific weapons) would be used on Rafale-NH also.

I thought you implied what mods IN Rafale would have that any other Rafale (IAF/AdlA/Aeronavale) didn't have.

I am just wondering if they will go for the identical IAF-specific package or cherry pick the features they want for their NHs.

Can't seem to think of anything specific right now. But I think IAF's version will spell the boundaries for India-specific modifications, and anything IN goes for could be within those margins i.e. nothing new. Waiting for IN to pleasantly surprise me.

Generally speaking...I'm certain we'd be going for a next-gen Russian WVRAAM (like the K-30 or something else) in future to use on FGFA and Super-MKI. You don't need radar integration for WVR missiles, but they have to be interfaced with the fighter's computers themselves. Who wants to see IAF/IN Rafales with NG Russian WVR missiles?

We'd still have MICA-IR so it's not like we'd be in a hurry to integrate them anyway. Plus there's also the Python-5 in case IAF/IN want more options for WVR segment.
