Hmm, I don't know if the Russian-French hostilities (post Mistral debacle) will allow this, Brahmos intergration will not be an issue as India owns the IPRs and the Brahmos is made in India but intergrating Russia's next generation WVRAAM may be a long shot. Perhaps India can fund/take part in the development of the next generation Meteor?

The designation for the IN's Rafale-M. IAF designations are Rafale "DH" and "EH", "E" for single seat, "D" for twin seat and "H" for India.

    Replaces the B,C, M designations.

IAF Rafale have been designated Rafale H so IN Rafale will be designated Rafale NH an assumption.

It's the way the us present information:
Several years ago Qatar said that he wanted 72 new aircrafts that could be Rafale or F-15 or a mixt of the two.
Dassault and Boeing made a proposal, and boeing asked US congres to clear the sale for 72 F-15 to Qatar. Qatar wait for clearence to decide but it takes several years to have it. So Qatar finally buy 24 Rafale plus an option on 12 more. Then the clearence come and US media to disseminate that they have an order for 72 F-15! But there is no contract yet, I don't know if there is even negociation on these F-15, and if there is it is likely that it is for 36 F-15 maximum....

Qatar will have an eventual fleet of 36 Rafales and 36 F-15s. The order will be placed after the new POTUS takes over, unless ofcourse US deviates from their current ME policy in a big way under Trump. But in general, Trump has business relations with Qatar royal family.

    Good Day!

France needs at the moment is 225 Fighter Planes. But before the socialist it was 286 and the socialist will loss the next election. Also in Europe there is a move from France and Germany to increase defence spending so it is possible that we come back to 300 Rafale in this context. But even if we stay at 225 the total production for France would be more because the first Rafale was induced in 2001 and we need to replace them begining of 2031, and it will be with Rafale MLU. To reach 2031 we will induce Rafale in France at very low rate (around 6/year) and complement the rate at more than 11 with export.

As @Picdelamirand-oil already explained, 72 is Qatar's total requirement. The request for 72 F-15s was placed with US prior to Rafale order. The extended silence from US, had Qatar and Kuwait scramble for alternates. Qatar signed up for Rafale whereas Kuwait went ahead with Typhoon. While Kuwait's approval for F/A-18 SH might not be exercised, Qatar will definitely exercise atleast half the approved number of F-15s. F-15 is a very highly praised aircraft amongst the ME countries, thanks to KSA's top of the line fighters on display for every bilateral exercise. Also, ME will continue to maintain relationships with US, due to the unpredictable reliability of European suppliers amidst Human Rights violation issues.

Some media sources consider the recent Approval as Contract signing, they are not aware of the ground reality.

    Good Day!

Those are orders and scheduled deliveries; not production.

Another thing to keep in mind that the US Congress gives a maximum amount, and if you want more you need another authorization. So it's better to ask for 72 and end up buying only 24 than to ask for 24 and then ask again because finally you'd like 72.

Obama has been perceived as having a pro-Iran foreign policy, so the Arab monarchies of the Gulf hope that by buying US stuff soon they'll be able to get Trump to go back to a more anti-Iran approach. That said nothing is signed yet; and the value of oil has fallen enough to make them more cautious than usual with their money.

We don't know exactly but we can expect that Rafale MLU will include all current PEA:
    • So Radar with GaN conformal antenna,
    • Upgrade of stealth and SPECTRA,
    • Use of tragedac (datalink with high rate and low latency) to implement Extended sensor and multi static radar,
    • New QWIP IR channel for OSF
To be added to HMD, M88 upgrade and new weapons added for India.

I bet UAE is under pressure from the US to buy more F-16s instead of Rafale.
