    Let them start.

    They will never finish.

Russians can't sell the MiG-35, what makes you think they can sell another plane based upon it?

It's not a Mig-35, it's a new design. The official said it is a MMRCA, ie, it is similar to a Mig-29, medium weight.

Even if Russia or China is able to field even an F-117-level stealth aircraft by 2020, the United States will have accumulated nearly 40 years of stealth operational experience, which almost certainly will include designing and testing counter-stealth technologies and counter-countermeasures – and doing so against at least four generations of different operational approaches to stealth. Which also means we have 40 years of research on how to detect stealthy aircraft.

In early November, the Air Force put out a solicitation to industry for ideas on the next-generation aircraft to replace the F-22 around 2030. Specifically designed to counter the growing “anti-access/area-denial environment that will exist in the 2030-2050 timeframe,” its primary mission would be “counter-air” – destroying or neutralizing the enemy’s ability to control the sky.

    Article clearly states:
I am skeptical this will ever be finished.

On the 'basis' of Mig-29. That basically means a Mig-29 class fighter.

Similarly, the PAK FA is on the 'basis' of Su-27. The Raptor is on the 'basis' of the F-15.

He's talking about the role the aircraft will fulfill.

Russia Military Capabilities: MiG-35 Fighter Jets Being Equipped With Laser Weaponry
By Suman Varandani @suman09 On 03/10/17 AT 6:07 AM

"Laser weapons [including those installed on the MiG-35] can disable these components and create massive interference, thereby nullifying the famous Western advantage in electronics," Drozdenko said, praising the weaponry as something that will be able "to cause irreparable damage to potential enemy warplanes' electronics."

The MiG-35, which is an advanced model of the original MiG-29 fighter, is armed with a 30 mm cannon and capable of carrying 1,500 rounds of ammunition. The fighter jet can also use air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, as well as guided and unguided rockets and bombs. The jet has a speed of 16,700 miles per hour, an effective range of 620 miles.

Drozdenko also said Thursday that the MiG-35 might be purchased by several countries, including India, Kazakhstan and Peru.

"India earlier bought the MiG-35s and other countries may follow suit, especially given the fact that the plane is armed with laser weapons," the expert said.

The United Aircraft Corporation President Yury Slyusar said serial purchases of the MiG-35s under the state arms procurement program is likely to begin in 2019.

Last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his country was looking to increase its military exports.

“The exports of Russian-made weapons and military equipment have reached $4.6 billion, and our contract portfolio is worth more than $50 billion,” Putin said at the time.

Doubt if Russian planes have the power or technology to make use of lasers to any great extent, F35 was designed for use lasers and EMC weapons as well as the knowledge gained from building stealth planes for 40 years.
