Podsolnukh detects low-flying bombers. The data can be
forwarded to the ballistic missile defense system successfully
    lock onto targets.
Over-the-horizon stations have a major advantage when compared to other radars. They are capable
of detecting stealth objects. For the Podsolnukh, the F-22 and the F-35, the best fighter jets in the US arsenal that could fly deep
behind enemy lines, are no different from aircraft that do not use stealth.
technology. But there is a trade-off. Over-the-horizon radars are
inconsistent with the IFF (Identification Friend or Foe)
    system.

    http://sputniknews.com/military/20160813/1044242483/russia-putin-hypersonic-nuclear-glider.html

The lethal hypersonic nuclear glider that looks to revolutionize defense aviation could travel the distance from Moscow to London within 13 minutes and could penetrate NATOs missile defense system.

After launching initial tests on Russia’s first futuristic glider last year as part of Russia’s Project 4202, the aircraft believed to be the Yu-74 is “ready for action” reports Britain’s Daily Star.

The glider can travel at a speed of Mach 10 (7,680MPH or 12,3560kmh) and will reportedly be fit with RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles although details about the glider’s specifications remain top secret. In April, US military officials confirmed the existence of Russia’s deadly hypersonic glider.

Considered a first in a growing aviation arms race, both the US and China are now hurrying to develop comparable hypersonic gliders equipped with nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles increasing the defense gap between the military superpowers and the rest of the world.

The report on the development of Russia’s hypersonic glider comes at a time when Moscow’s relations with the West approach a historic tipping point driven most recently by accusations that President Vladimir Putin is attempting to intervene in the US political election after Hillary Clinton’s campaign hurled a desperate allegation that the WikiLeaks file dump exposing her own bid, joined by the media and Democratic Party officials, to subvert the 2016 presidential election was all a plot of the Russians.

The splurge of Russophobia appears to have spilled over into defense relations with feverish assaults on Moscow’s strategy in Syria of stabilizing the Assad regime at least as long as necessary to root out Daesh and other jihadist elements in addition to renewed struggle in Crimea after Ukrainian forces were thwarted in a terror plot, an incident that has brought Moscow and Kiev to the brink.

There does appear to be a bit of opportunism in the reporting of Russia’s defense capabilities by Western media outlets with recent leaks claiming that NATO would be outgunned by the Moscow military machine if a conflict were to ensue in a transparent effort to lobby for increased defense appropriations to further subsidize the Western military-industrial complex.

Although the latest report by Britain’s Daily Star may be in line with this vein of exaggerating the threat of Russia, Moscow’s program of hypersonic military capabilities has been an open secret and similar reports about the incredible capabilities of the experimental Yu-74 have been detailed by defense analytics webspite Ostkraft.ru which determined that the aircraft’s outstanding maneuverability and high speeds would render NATO’s missile defense systems and the US THAAD shield useless.

YEKATERINBURG, September 27. /TASS/. An air defense regiment of the Central Military District, armed with the S-400 Triumph systems a year ago, has hit high-speed targets in its first exercise in Buryatia, an aide to the Central Military District’s commander, Yaroslav Roshchupkin, has said.

"The crews excellently coped with combat launches, made in a joint exercise with the 14th Air Force and Air Defense Army at the Telemba proving ground in Buryatia," Roshchupkin said. "Six missiles were launched to destroy hard-to-hit high-speed missile targets Kaban travelling along a flat path at a speed of 1,200 meters per second at an altitude of 45 kilometers."

Earlier, the S-400 battalions stationed in the Novosibirsk Region, were moved to the area of the exercise more than 3,000 away. Some 300 personnel and about 80 pieces of military equipment took part.

"Real prototypes of such weapons have already been created and they have proven their efficiency,” a representative of Russia’s United Instrument Manufacturing Company (OPK), which is in charge of the production, told RIA Novosti.

The new technology falls under the somewhat loose term "weapons based on new physical principles." The grouping includes armaments that employ physical processes and phenomena not generally used in modern weapons. Laser and sonic weapons are among other examples of such technology.

According to the OPK representative, the brand-new Russian system is as yet unrivaled.

“This is a completely new type of weapon, which has no analogues in our country, and I daresay, in the world."

The announcement came during the ‘Arms High-tech’ military exhibition currently taking place in Armenia. The state-of-the-art system is capable of disabling various types of targets without using the traditional rounds or shells. Instead, the weapon uses ‘directed energy.’

"It conducts indirect physical impact on the on-board equipment of aircraft or drones and neutralizes precision-guided weapons," RIA quotes the OPK representative as saying.

The weapon was for the first time presented to Russian military officials in September this year during a closed performance at the annual military expo ‘Army 2016’ outside Moscow.

In February, US Air Force General Philip Breedlove warned of the rising electronic warfare capabilities in Russia, the National Interest reported.

“They [Russia] have invested a lot in electronic warfare because they know we are a connected and precise force and they need to disconnect us to make us imprecise,” Breedlove said.

The US is working on numerous projects of non-conventional weapons, including radio, electronic, infrared and laser ones.

“We have electronic warfare capability – we probably do not have the capacity we need now,” Breedlove noted.

In April this year, Russia’s Radio-Electronic Technologies Concern (KRET) announced it has started trials of a tactical electromagnetic combat complex fully integrated with the latest air-defense systems.

The system is designed to suppress any existing and prospective airborne electronic equipment, making it impossible for the aircraft and satellites to proceed with their missions.
