Really? J-20 is licensed and upgraded copy of MiG 1.44. They paid really good money, and had buy all - including laboratories, industry lines, rare materials, workers and engineers.

Russia actually can't afford to let FGFA fall, since that would risk the only major export customer for the fighter and opens the way for the US to push for F35 and AMCA in the long run. More MKIs won't come for sure, since we already have a good number and they won't add much benefits in times of stealth fighters.

Full price for jet is one thing, full price for technologies is other. New technologies - new prices. New Indian conversations with USA -> increasing of risks for us -> increasing of price. New political/economical/cultural integration with Russia - lower price.

Talking about price - look at new Qatar deal. 36 old F-15's for 12 Giga$ without any tech-transfer.
33 crores of dollars for one obsolete jet.
Do you really think that there are too big prices on Russian jets?

The unit cost was never an issue with Russian fighters, but what will be added over the 30 to 40 years of life. Funding production of spares and upgrades, cost increases of Russian parts over time, cost per hour...
Not to mention that in this case, the low cost is based on low capability. Russia neither have developed the Mig 35 they promised in MMRCA, with larger wings for more fuel and more weapon stations, nor could the Zhuk AE achieve the promised 200Km detection range.
The weapon pack is not up to date anymore with western counter parts and even there are some improvements on EW and avionics, they fall short to what India has available as options or from other fighters.

So you can't justify a Mig 35 sale to India, other than with increasing the Indian content of the fighter (which aims on our pride), or with political benefits (like in the Kamov 226 deal).

When you just look at cost and capability, the Gripen E and F16 are better choices for IAF.

@Sancho , your choice is your choice.
But both F-16 and Gripen are "sitting ducks" for Mig-35.
In Bangalore Juk-AE show distance of finding target with RCS 5 m^2 is more that 130 kn in frontal hemisphere and 60 km in rear hemishere, for land targets 61—72 km.

Qatar was price gouged because it wanted security guarantees from USA against possible Saudi aggression.

Yes. We do not need security undertakings/guarantee from anyone. Hence we chose Rafale for medium weight fighter.

We would welcome a conventional aggression by Pakistan on Kashmir.

Our 600000 soldiers would love to finally fight an enemy in front of them not hidden amongst the civilian population.

You see Pakistani Army, got the great leason in 1971, that never mess with the Indian Army directly, thus they started the unconventional war with the the help of State sponsored terrorism not only in Kashmir, but in Punjab and many states of the country. And this trend will continue, and Jihadis will remain their front end soldiers as far as So called Kashmir war is concerned.

Most of its mens are deployed in the Fata, Balluchistan region, and Pakistan don't have the manpower to deploy the substantial number of soldiers along the border with the India, leave aside fighting the War.

Do care to read the book written by Ms Siddiqa "Military Inc, The Politics of Military's Economy in Pakistan", how Pakistani Army is now the 20 Billion turnover buisness company in reality, running more than 50 projects, producing from Cements to Conflakes, tender in Road building, even the electricity meter reading personals are the soldiers of Pakistani Army. So do you expect the buisness man to go to the war, and make a loss in the buisness.

    MIG 35

    1. Is it a single engine combat plane ?
    2. Have the Migs sold their Single engine design to some one like China ?
    3. Why another Airsuperiority, when the requirement is for the Multirole ?
    4. If their AESA is so great, why didn't they are using for themself ?
    5. Does this offer comes from the MIG or Rosonexport ?
    6. Does they provide the same benifits, readiness, low cost of operation comparable to the West ?
    7. Are we asking for Loans or will buy using hard Cash ?
