    S-400, S-500: RUSSIAN TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGE

The ground-air device type "Anti access / area denial"
(see sections entitled "NATO: facing denial of access" and "Steel Arc and denial of access") deployed by the Russians in Syria was surprisingly effective Western forces and held in check many operations including against stealthy platforms, though this threat was known for many years.

It was the Desert Storm operation, with the massive use of stealth bombers and cruise missiles, pushed the Russians to rediscover their old radar at low frequencies forgotten by Western electronic warfare systems. Russian research has crystallized around NNIIRT Laboratories, maker of radar P18 Spoonrest, specializing in radar low frequency (UHF / VHF 30Mhz to 1GHz), the specific wavelength could detect the F- B2 117 and several hundred kilometers. The work of Onera (French research office) in the RIAS radar had demonstrated to the astonishment of the Americans, the detection capability of these platforms by radar at low frequencies.

Far from being a relic of the Cold War, the introduction of digital processing STAP Type (Space Time Adaptive Processing) has quickly made terrible these devices. The real doctrinal break for the Russians was to have several radars curtains operating on different frequencies, ranging from detecting advanced far beyond the borders of a network of fixed and mobile radars at low frequencies, resistant to jamming and attacks of anti-radar missiles, to guide interceptor missiles.

After developing several models of Nevo or Oborona, which ensured the 3D and 2D surveillance, Moscow now has radar active antennas, as Nevo SVU VHF, Gamma and Protivnik OF THE L-band (1-2 Ghz) to track stealthy platforms, cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles and AWACS. Or as Barrier E, dedicated to the detection platforms footprint low flying at very low altitude as the Rafale.

This is, firstly, to determine a "search box" in which the air defense systems S-300 or S-400, thanks to their powerful band radar acquisition X (91N6E / 96L6E / 40V6MR ), then take over to track down the target before disabling the firing of a missile, which will be guided during its run by another engagement radar (92N6E).

The multiple radars and frequencies employees aims to saturate the enemy jamming capabilities. While the F22 through its GBU-39 / B SDB, is to destroy the opposing device to low frequencies alerts in the first minutes of the fight ... provided he can get close. Especially as the Russians use more and more mobile devices, which complicate targeting, passive radar and bistatic radar (or transmitting and receiving antennas are different).

Finally, to all of these automated network of airspace surveillance, adds a third aircraft carrier segment for the detection, prosecution and attack any interference source ESM / ELINT mainly targeting capabilities jamming pod ALQ-99 Growler F18. The mesh of the network by a C4I system, capitalizing on one of L3 Com seized during the Georgian conflict in 2008 by Russian forces, has only multiply these systems response capabilities by allowing them to follow in real time opposing deployment, such as management of weapons and detection systems.

The S-400, which now has multi-frequency active antennas mobile radars (VHF, L, X), wants the ultimate approach of A2 / AD integrating Russian ballistic capacity inherited from the S-300 PMU2. In Syria, this system with 48 missiles and can continue up to 80 targets, forbade any approach less 400 km from its position.

China, which now develops its own VHF radars (YJ26, JY-27A, YLC2V ...) and even OTH (Over The Horizon), inspired by the HF radar (0-30 Mhz) Russian Rezonans-NE with a range of thousands kilometers, just bought six S-400 systems.

But the Russians are already preparing the deployment of S-500 in 2017. Far from being an evolution of the S-400, S-500 will replace the S-300 and dedicate more specifically, through a 4-second response time (against 10 for the S-400 and 90 for the Patriot), neutralization of ballistic missiles of intermediate generation range, satellites in low orbit and weapons launched from space by an HGV but hypersonic missiles developed specifically to keep in check the air defense systems, or nuclear warheads planing say that the Chinese are testing on the DF-21 and prohibit the prediction of their trajectories ...

The use of Russian or Chinese denial of access bubbles will spread in the coming years, especially as these deployable systems soon equip their marine without Westerners can respond conventionally.

Russians are so far behind in technology, and so weak economically there are hardly any long considered a threat.

did it ever occur to you that a strong man with means is never a threat to anyone but a strong man without means is extremely dangerous.

Any one can be a threat, in the old west the six gun was called the great equalizer, the atom bomb is todays equalizer. Russia has a weapons industry that is desperate but they cant deliver on their promises.

Claims have been made by Russia that its new over the horizon radar is powerful enough to detect the US's new F-35 stealth fighter. Dubbed Podsolnuh, or Sunflower to anglophones, the radar is capable of detecting sea surface and air objects at a maximum distance of 500 kilometers at different altitudes in line of sight and over the horizon. At present, three Podsolnukh radars are in operation and are located by the Sea of Okhotsk, the Sea of Japan and the Caspian Sea.

Pls read your own post. You are contradicting yourself. If a gun or an atom bomb is an equaliser, Russia has same numbers as USA. After that how does it matter as to who has pockets full and who is a pauper. Once shooting starts, both will fire and both are as vulnerable to bullets as anybody else.

Lol mate this only reflects your ignorance and superiority complex which you and your country suffer from Russia

Anyways india is was an ally of USSR & an ally of Russia today that no one can change. I haven't compared both USSR & Russia in any of my comments

Roke Manor figured out how to do it with no frequency emissions at all 18 years ago.
