Saab Gripen vs Eurofighter Typhoon for CroAF

    Well, Croatia has to buy new fighter aircraft until 2017 at absolute latest. So, which aircraft you think Croatia would be better off buying?

    Here are pluses and minuses as I see them:

    Eurofighter Typhoon
    + IRST
    + bubble cockpit
    + maneuverability
    - cost
    - maintenance
    - requires runaways
    - Eurofighter's business record

    Saab Gripen
    - no IRST
    - no bubble cockpit
    + maneuverability
    + cost
    + maintenance
    + can take off from any better road
    + SAABs business record

    I think Gripen is better option, especially NG variant (has IRST), but I won't be disappointed if we choose Typhoon either.

    Thoughts?

    Acquiring and maintaining Typhoons will be too costly for a country like Croatia, Gripen NG is the best option. What's the price per unit for Gripen NG?

    Do we get these gals free as part of the deal? If so, damn this italian waitress. The MMRCA shud be retendered as this part of goodies was not part of the original submissions.

    Sir ,If they will be available free as a part of deal the Indian naval air aviation will not support LCA project anymore. :mrgreen:

    Okay, stop that shit. This is about aircraft, not about something for male pilots to f**k. And Skully, I thought at least moderators ought to think with their heads instead of their... I really won't type it here.

    Germany is ready to sell us Typhoons at 60 million USD per aircraft, which is on par with Gripen's flyaway cost. But I am worried about maintenance - and we might get Gripens for free until we buy NG later. Besides, Gripen is somewhat more maneuverable than Typhoon at low speeds, and given that we are going to use it for CAS too, it'll need it.
