True. And Gripen NG may be the best fighter aircraft in world... if it gets IRST, which I believe it will.

Gripen is best bet for CroAF, not that Typhoon is bad, but Gripen is lighterm cheaper & easier
to maintain in the long run, NG variant will get IRST, nice one to hunt the Mig-29s in Croatia's neighbourhood:mrgreen:

Gripen NG is formidable opponent. It’s avionic mission system, including the AESA radar, IRST sensor, and an advanced active and passive EW system, provides superior sensor fusion and decision support capabilities. Additionally with a missile approach warning system, laser warning system, and built in jamming capability provide excellent offensive and defensive characteristics. It’s a capable multirole platform with super manoeuvrability. It’s operational cost is low. So Gripen is good solution for Croatia provided threat perception around them.

SAAB has given the hard-hitting rivalry to other manufacture in South Africa, Thailand, and Barzil, Denmark’s fighter jet competition.

However wanted to know what performance wise & range wise difference in terms of AESA radar between the EFT’s CAPTOR-E AESA & NG’s RAVEN –AESA radar? Further Power plant is American one in NG. However Croatia is NATO member so may be not much problem with that likes sanction etc.

I voted for Gripen bcoz its cheaper than Typhoon but still it will more than sufficient to take on best of the 4+ generations fighters.
BTW, which version are you getting,Picard??

True. Better than anything else flying, for far lower cost.

10 Gripen C + 2 Gripen D, with possibility of upgrade to NG standard (that is, E/F) later.

Gripen is better for a small country like Croatia.

Gripen's operating cost is actually lower than that of F-16C!

That is not a good idea. Buy E/F from day one. Upgrade of C/D to E/F will be more costly.
Well if someone already have more C/D air-crafts then there is no option left. But if you buy new aircraft then as I said buy E/F from day one.

To be honest, I saw a post on South African Forum, the Swedish guy said it there, Gripen E/F C1 aircraft is cheaper then buy C/D and later on upgrade it to E/F.

Actually, I worded it wrong - Sweden offered us to lend us Gripen C/D until we can buy new Gripen E/Fs.

Yes, Sweden does offer Aircraft on lease to secure orders, and Croatia isn't the first one. Czech, Hungary, Thailand, all are leasing aircrafts from Sweden.

    I love the typhooon!
I would love to see it become more of success. Being British dictates some of that but it really is a great aircraft.

But in this case, I think the CroAF should go for Gripen preferably Gripen NG since it is more advanced and the specs such as payload are better.

    My vote goes to Gripen...

It has a decent price tag, real bang for the buck.
Low maintenance cost, lower than the nearest competitor the F-16.
You can count on Saab not mess things up.

    Affordable, reliable and effective.

That about sums it up. Typhoon is effective, and reliable to my knowledge, but very expensive.
