    Platinum jubilee of Latin Archdiocese

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Apostolic Nuncio Rev Dr Salvatore Pennachio will declare open the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Latin Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram at Vettucaud here on Friday.

According to a statement issued by Vicar General Mon Eugene Pereira, the Apostolic Nuncio will make the announcement regarding the year-long celebrations at the Coastal Bible Convention being organised at the St Mary’s HSS Ground, Vettucaud, at 5 p.m.

During his visit, Rev Salvatore will bless the statue of the late Pope John Paul II and lay the foundation stone for the shrine of John Paul II at the Bernarda Nursing Home Compound, Shanghumugham, and declare the spot ‘John Paul II Nagar.’

Earlier, the Church had scotched allegations that it intended to name Shanghumugham after John Paul II. The former Pope had visited Shanghumugham in the 1980s.

In a statement here on Wednesday, the Latin Archdiocese said that the Archdiocese owns several properties in the coastal area of Shanghumugham.

The statue would be installed on land owned by the Church and land owned by the Church would be named after John Paul.

The Platinum Jubilee celebrations will lay thrust on an action plan for the Archdiocese for the next 25 years, conduct of a synod for formulating the policies and canons, construction of 75 houses as a jubilee memorial, and training of personnel.

Importance will be given during the celebrations to increase the participation of parishioners in church activities.

The synod will meet from February 12 to 17, 2012. The synod will be attended by nearly 100 members of the clergy and laity.

Are people going nuts in kerala why they need to change the name of a place that into name of some POPE...

If they really want people to remember the pope then they should start some Ashrams with his name...In kerala some Catholics are behaving like Christianity is Rich mans religion...

First AC church has been already inaugurated in kerala...

in malayalam there is a old Quote like -alpanna aishwaryam vannal Ardha ratrill Koda pidikkum...
