INS Satpura : Second P-17 stealth frigate commissioning tomorrow

Will be in Mumbai from tomorrow for the commissioning of INS Satpura into service on Saturday at the naval dockyard. She's the second Project 17 (Shivalik-class) indigenous stealth frigate built by Mazagon Dock Ltd (MDL). Let me know what you want to know about the ship (that isn't classified obviously).

the Barak-1 Close-In SAM launcher's VLS cells below them and the Otobreda 76mm gun mount to
    the front.

Shivalik's twin aircraft hangars. These can store 2 helicopters, 1 in each. Which maybe
either the HAL Dhruv or the Westland Sea King Mk.42B choppers.

the shivalik class has klub or brahmos?
and can u pls clarify abt the stealth capability of IN.
i read on globalsecurity.org that shivalik class stealth is not as good as visby or la-fayette class.
also i want to ask that r talwar class really stealth ships or just with some degree of rcs reduction.

    Re: Project-17 Shivalik-class FFG

Im sorry about the weapons package I have mentioned above, the actual
figures are 8 cruise missiles and 56 surface-to-air missiles.

They currently carry 3M54E Klub-N onboard, but the impending implemention of the L&T-built Universal VLS cells means it carry BrahMos and Klub side-by-side with equal ease.

Shivalik's stealth is very comparable (if not better) than that of the Chinese Type-054A Jiangkai-II class frigate, while the PN-operated F-22P Zulfiqar is no match at all. I think this is just sufficient for our needs.

VLS-launch mechanisms decrease RCS. Shivalik has VLS-launched cruise missiles and Barak-1 SAMs, while the 9M317 Shtil-I are fixed in an arm-launcher which is non-stealthy. I hope we retrofit Shivalik with the VLS-launched 9M317ME version soon.

9M317 arm-launcher material picture of INS Teg (same type is on Shivalik) -

Type-054A on the other hand hs all VLS-launched SAMs (HQ-16) but the cruise missiles are contained in non-stealthy box launchers, like this -

In the overall, Shivalik is stealthier than Type-054A.

There is no comparison between VISBY and Shivalik because the former is a light ASW corvette while the latter is full-blown guided missile frigate capable of mimicking a "light destroyer".

Yes, La Fayette is stealthier than Shivalik, its one of the stealthiest ships out there in operational service.

The hull is stealthy. But all the external features and add-ons make it seem just an RCS-reduced vessel. In most circumstances its just as stealthy as the Type-054A, and far more stealthier than F-22P Zulfiqar. It does make an excellent Carrier-escort vessel though.

    Re: Project-17 Shivalik-class FFG

    thnx for the info.
is there any plans to upgrade the IN DDG & FFG SAM systems?
Shiti range is too low and if future SAM systems like barak-8 can be installed on existing warships?
