Realistically speaking, what is China's #1 national security problem?

Don't say the United States, because thermonuclear weapons will never be used. If it is, none of us will be here to argue about it.

Thus, the real-world top concern for China is food security. The amount of food China produces is just sufficient to maintain its population.

What if there is a bad harvest? China has food silos that can provide food for its population for a few years.

How about a prolonged period of bad harvests over many years? There is a way to solve this problem.

Historically, Mongolia has been part of China until 1945. Recently, Russia reclaimed the Crimea (by claiming it is historically Russian territory). Israel is busy annexing the West Bank a little chunk at a time (by claiming it is historically Jewish territory). Similarly, China should just proclaim it is reclaiming part of its historical territory in Outer Mongolia.

Look at the topography of Outer Mongolia. It is 75% grassland. Mongolia (604,600 sq. mi) is almost the size of four Californias (163,696 sq. mi). That means China can easily reclaim three Californias of arable grassland.

Furthermore, look at the latitude of Outer Mongolia. It is located at the same latitude as North and South Dakota, which are prime wheat-producing regions.

Outer Mongolia is at the right altitude and latitude. It also has plenty of water from its numerous rivers.

Most of Outer Mongolia is grassland.

As China-US relations head south, keep your eye on Outer Mongolia. Chinese President Xi Jinping may decide to rejoin Mongolia back to China for national security reasons. Instead of importing food from the United States, China can produce its own food in Outer Mongolia.

Dalai Lama is greatest threat to the Supa Pawa China. :agree:

They will bully the entire world but you invite Dalai Lama to some ceremony and their state & state run media will go nuts.:cray:

Hence it is proved that the biggest threat to China aka Han Dynasty is a Tibetian guru called "Dalai Lama".

    Regarding... Mongolia...

I think the Mongol people will have to defend themselves...

They are sandwiched between the Russian Federation and PRC...

So... No other country can support them directly by supplying weapons or goods...

In case of India.... We can only diplomatically and financially support them...

    Anyway...

I hope there is peace.... And the PRC does not go on a 'nation conquering drive' .... despite the fact that they are fully capable of doing so....Saner Minds shall prevail...

And in any case...Given their coult in that region..... They can easily persuade the Mongols to grow food for them... And Import it...

(PS : To Martian Please stop calling it 'Outer Mongolia'... They have a name... It' s 'Mongolia' ) Just Because you have a province called 'Inner Mongolia' it doesn't mean the other part becomes 'Outer Mongolia'.... .

the only difference between crimea and mongolia is that crimean population is pro russian and want to join russia where as mongols are dead against china and actually consider china as a threat than an ally. you rant just shows expansionist thoughts of china. if china annexes mongolia by force like russians did that will send out a bad signal to rest of the countries that has border disputes with china and will further pushes them towards western camp. i don't think chinese are that dumb to provoke all of their neighbors when they have other options at their table.

No one lives in Mongolia. There are only 2.8 million people. It is the most sparsely populated territory in the world.

    There will be no resistance.

Hong Kong (e.g. 7.2 million inhabitants) has over twice the population of Mongolia.

Reclaiming Outer Mongolia is easier than reclaiming Hong Kong.
    ----------

In March 2014, Russia reclaimed Crimea.

In November 2014, Russia sent troops and equipment into Eastern Ukraine.

    There have been no repercussions.

Since Russian action is accepted by the world, there is no downside to reclaiming Outer Mongolia for China.

Have you forgotten about the public referendum conducted in Crimea??? Having less population doesn't mean you go out there and occupy other countries. Try to think with your brain rather than your dick.

You mean the public referendum where the vote occurred after the Russian takeover?

Sure, China can hold a referendum after reclaiming Outer Mongolia.

Dude it's Mongolia not outer Mongolia. Get that fact first. People in Crimea wants to merge with Russia unlike Mongols who actually hate China(as I think of it it seems everyone hates China

Is there any end to China's "traditional and historical borders" or its list of territories it wishes to "reclaim?"

I'm waiting for the day China draws a 9,000 Dash Line claiming that Washington DC is also an ancient Chinese village.

China illegally takes over territory then claims that bordering countries are just extensions of its territory, its a very nefarious design. Ever notice how first the Chinese illegally invaded and occupied Tibet then magically turned Arunachal Pradesh into "South Tibet?"

Same way apparently the original Mongolia itself is just outer Mongolia now. Sooner or later there will also be an Outer Russia, Outer Japan and Outer India lmfao.

No wonder Chinese are seen as cunning people world wide. I am waiting for the day when Chinese wants all the countries to repay Lo the loans or cede their territory to Chinese companies.

Also, the title is misleading. China's Number 1 and ONLY National Security Problem, is frankly China itself.

Any national security problem or conflict China may have is purely self inflicted, because they go around trying to aggressively expand, they treat all their neighbors with arrogance and contempt, and consistently bully and arm twist them (China has more territorial disputes than neighbors).

I predict China reclaims Outer Mongolia in 2021.

There are compelling reasons that China will reclaim Outer Mongolia by 2021.

    1. China needs a few years to build up its stealth fighter fleet. The Chengdu J-20 will enter mass production this year. A fleet of J-20s will be amassed in the next four years.

    2. The year 2021 is near the end of Chinese President Xi Jinping's administration. He may want to leave a legacy of reclaiming Outer Mongolia.

    3. US President-elect Donald Trump is about to throw the "One China" policy out the window. This means China's PLA is no longer restrained from reclaiming Outer Mongolia. The "One China" policy was the old deal by both countries to maintain the status quo, which is about to be abrogated.
