F-35 FOC will be in 2031, for the moment it's only a fake IOC not FOC.

You can't even read. He said IOC, not FOC. LCA Mk1 also got a fake IOC back in 2011. JF-17 also got a fake IOC many years ago.

Actual IOC for F-35 is scheduled for 2018 with Block 3F. The software release will allow the firing of the Aim-120D. All other IOCs before that are all fake.

Learn to read, and then do some research.

Can you clean the thread. Last few posts seems a bit too much out of scope of discussion pertaining to Su30 MKI

Su 30 is pretty good for a 4th generation plane but is going to be useless against stealth planes and modern air to air and ground to air missiles. Of course you can say the same about most fighter planes.

Do you actually know what an AWACS does?

Even if the big radar dome is the most striking part of the aircraft, it's not actually the most important. The really important part is in the C: it's a control aircraft. Do I need to remind you that an AWACS has a mission crew of over a dozen people? That's in addition to the flight crew of four. Do you think you can replace all these guys by just one pilot in a fighter?

People who talk about using fighters as "mini AWACS" have no idea what the mission of an AWACS actually is. Most of the work consists in coordinating the various friendly aircraft operating in the controlled airspace; detecting enemies is actually a minor part. If the air forces relied on them for that, fighter aircraft wouldn't even be equipped with radars: they'd just use what the AWACS tell them.

The E-3 (and its smaller naval counterpart the E-2) will never be replaced by jet fighters. Claiming so is as absurd as claiming that an F-35 with a cargo pod will replace the C-17.

Source says MKI upgrade plan is considering main AESA radar + Integrated side looking AESA ones and a arrangement very similar to PAKFA and a integrated IRST as well.

Yes, that is in line with what Prasun said. Btw, what do you mean by an integrated IRST as part of upgrade? MKI already has an integrated IRST (not a podded one).

Is there an IRST upgrade planned? Like replacing the OLS-30 with the OLS-35 or the OLS-50M.

I believe I remember Prasun also going on to state that a dorsal slot will be created behind the cockpit (but ahead of the air-brake) - similar to what's on PAK-FA, and will be able to carry a DIRCM (or even a rear-facing IRST, but I'm skeptical how well that would work as the heat of the plane's own engines might mess with the efficiency quite a bit). I wonder if the 101KS-O DIRCM being developed for PAK-FA will be used here as well.

It seems the idea is to again represent the flanker as the top end of the family and bridge the capability gap and maintenance issues to take it on par with Rafale and EFs. Thats their agenda.

In which areas SU-30MKI lags from Typhoon and Rafale apart from maintenance? Capability wise Su-30 MKI is having better performance overall compared to these planes despite carrying Bars PESA radar be it longer tracking range or higher agility.

PS: Yes MKI is having a bigger RCS due to size and this is a disadvantage for it in mordern combat, but lets ignore this.

Well, how about supercruising for a start? Important capability to have when talking about covering vast distances at supersonic speeds, while maintaining a good fuel economy (afterburner guzzles down fuel like hell), a considerable combat payload (upto 4 AAMs + drop tanks) and keeping IR signature output to a minimum.

Furthermore, eventhough MKI has Rafale beat when it comes to carrying some outsize ordnance like BrahMos, Rafale actually has a higher payload capacity than MKI.

Then, there is the ability to conduct extremely low-altitude, terrain-following flights which allows the Rafale to stay out of sight of most air-surveillance radars. Especially useful in the Himalayas. The perfect replacement for Jaguars and MiG-27Ms.

All in all, it's not impossible for the MKI to achieve parity (or even surpass) the Rafale in a lot of areas like avionics & sensors. But not without a deep upgrade. Even then, some inherent advantages of Rafale will remain.

If SU30 has a big but PESA radar, it is far from being low observable, so a smaller radar can pick it from higher range.
    And what about Meteor?

After the production of Su30 mki, the line is intended to be used for MLU and MLO. Although currently HAL had the capacity to perform MLO for a handful of aircrafts, the line ones free can be used dedicatedly. Moreover, the MLU itself is going to be a big task.

Thus the line would be kept busy until the FGFA is finalised and ready for production. Therefore the possibility of adding 2 additional ( expensive and heavy class) Squadrons of Su 30MKi seems to be highly unlikely.

The IAF is also under the opinion that they have enough heavy class jets. You really can't order 2 squadrons of Su 30mki to replace mig 27s. There are other MII programs envisaged for this very purpose.

There are many areas where Su-30 MKI outdoes Rafale,
Firstly in agility, Eurofighter and Rafale are competitive planes but Su-30 MKI beats them both in dogfights.,
Further Rafale is not a stealth of VLO, and it does not have a very small RCS, due to it being smaller than Su-30 MKI it has lower RCS than Su-30 MKI but it is detectable nevertheless, The Libyan Radars were able to track Rafale even when Rafale was using SPECTRA..

In Range + warload ,, Su-30 MKI wins hands down vs Rafale, for example to achieve un refueled range, of Su-30 MKI, Rafale has to sacrifice its wet pylons for fuel tanks and thus for range where Su-30 MKI can carry weapons for A2G and A2A mission, Rafale will carry much lower warload and might just carry A2A.

Further Rafale cannot have sustanied super cruise ability, this is FYI
