Taiwan parliamentary delegation visits India, China sees red

    HIGHLIGHTS
    • China is still smarting from Donald Trump's pro-Taiwan comments
    • It's now suspicious India too will jump on the bandwagon
    • However, Beijing warns India it will 'suffer losses' if New Delhi 'plays the Taiwan card'.
NEW DELHI: Two days after a parliamentary delegation from Taiwan visited India, China lodged a diplomatic protest with New Delhi asking it to deal "prudently" with Taipei-related issues so as to maintain sound Sino-Indian ties.

That this might happen was indicated by the fact that China used its state media earlier today to warn New Delhi that "playing the Taiwan card" is akin to "playing with fire."

"We hope that India would understand and respect China's core concerns and stick to the 'One-China' principle and prudently deal with Taiwan-related issues and maintain sound and steady development of India-China relations," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told the media, PTI reported.

Of course, China is still smarting from brand new US President Donald Trump's pro-Taiwan and anti-China statements. And it's afraid its other traditional rivals will borrow a page from Trump's diplomatic playbook.

China, which considers Taiwan as part of its mainland, opposes any diplomatic relations as well as political contacts with Taipei by countries which has diplomatic relations with it.

"...some Indian strategists have advised the Modi government to play the Taiwan card, using the commitment of the 'One-China' policy as leverage in exchange for China's endorsement of 'One India. By challenging China over the Taiwan question, India is playing with fire," said a column in Global Times, a media outlet affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party newspaper, People's Daily.

On the one hand the column says that Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen is exploiting India's "strategic suspicions against China" and on the other hand, it displays Beijing's extreme suspicion about the visit of a Parliamentary delegation.

"High-level visits between India and Taiwan are not very frequent, so why did India invite the Taiwan delegation to visit at this time?" says the Global Times column.

Separately, Geng said "those who are visiting India are so called legislators from Taiwan" and Beijing is opposed to any official contacts between Taiwan and other countries with whom China has diplomatic relations.

India, the column added "must be wary" about Taiwanese President Tsai's intentions.

"India wants benefits from the development of trade with Taiwan and Taiwanese investment. But it should be wary of Tsai's political intentions and avoid being used to confront the mainland...Pro-independence forces in Taiwan have become more isolated in the world. Those who want to use the Taiwan question to contain the mainland will have to suffer losses," the column warns.

The 'warning power' sees red; we play jalikattu! :D

What ties buggers? Now you remember ties?

We play with fire in every yagna, no problem.

What about our concerns Mr. 11 Xingping?

So far China's role in that development has been steadily negative.

Cool. One India for One China, give and take, it can't be take and take.

Yeah commies, this happens when you try to screw all your neighbours.

    Hamari marzi, our wish.

We don't care about your opposition unless you care about our concerns. Deal with it.

Overall, awesome news, we should work closely with the sovereign nation of Taiwan to build our capabilities in electronics and secure both countries' interest in SCS, or should we call it STS? :)

Apparently , since 2006, the Chinese have used the creeping acquisition method to grab Indian territory .The most significant incident was in 2013 , now known as the Depsang plains incident .

To cut a long story short , the Chinese are believed to have occupied around 500 sq kms + of Indian territory in the western sector ( Ladakh) .

The only confirmation of this incident came through a statement by ex Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran in 2013 - 14 when he headed the NSAB , who promptly recanted his statement after a furore.

The incursions during Xi Jinping's visit to India in 2014 was to test the Modi Government's response .While ,he didn't rise to the bait , he's certainly giving a long rope to the Chinese to hang themselves with .

The "block " by the Chinese in the UN Security Council in the Masood Azhar case, the roadblocks being put up in the NSG on India's candidature , the casual disregard about India's concerns in the CPEC's passage thru PoK are all going to come back to bite China in their backside in a big way.

The incursions seem to have ceased .Temporarily .

This summer should see something decisive happen on the western front in Kashmir.Wait & watch .

It's time China understands, recognition of Tibet and Taiwan as "One China" is not a guaranteed or permanent fact. They better behave themselves, or there are a million faultlines in their country too. We still haven't even begun needling Xinjiang yet...

And regardless of what our public stance is vis a vis Taiwan-China, we need to really deepen and strengthen our ties and cooperation with Taiwan, as well as other ASEAN countries that have a beef with China.

An intentional hidden camera leak with mp's nuclear threat to Chinese will keep them at bay for some time

Actually our options vis a vis China are extremely limited as long as their umbilical cord with Pak isn't snapped .The road to stand down Beijing is via Islamabad & Musharraf - MMS type deals on J&K as confirmed by Kasuri is certainly not part of agenda anymore .

While the most we can do is irritate China , they can cause us grievous harm .

What used to be covert until a few years ago has come out into the open .I'm referring to China's brazen support to Pakistan in virtually every sphere - from supplying N reactors , to N capable BM & CM , from supplying Subs to FA , to building their infrastructure to virtually underpinning their economy thru CPEC , to campaigning for them in NSG or the support extended to them in the UNSC in the Masood Azhar case.

We have little options except the worst of it - i.e - wait & watch .Unless our leadership takes up a madman posture & in the event of another grave provocation from Pak , either initiates cold start & call their bluff on N blackmail or be willing to make the sacrifices necessary in case they choose to act on their N blackmail & use the opportunity to annihilate them .
Unfortunately , in spite of Pak serving ample notice of its intentions we have chosen to live in our own bubble , refusing to alter our defensive doctrine of our armed forces w.r.t Pak what to speak of China

Cold Start remains still borne as we still lack the equipment, funds ,trained personnel & most importantly the political will to prosecute it .While recent moves in making up for the War Wastage Reserves have been initiated , the allocation in the Union Budget best reveals the GoI's hand as far making capital available for rapid modernisation of our armed forces goes .Nor are the necessary structural changes being initiated in the heirarchy architecture & doctrine of our armed forces .

In all fairness , it's asking too much on the incumbent administration where in they are expected to remedy all the accumulated ills of the past 2 decades or more in just a 5 year term. Let me emphasise that the criminal neglect of the armed forces in all respects during the 10 year UPA regime is something that will particularly haunt us in case we face a debacle in the near future.

While there is some chatter on how a US led western alliance would de fang Pak of its NW & FM , it seems far fetched .

I'm pessimistic of us getting the upper hand in the current scenario .A surgical strike here or there apart , it seems only a reversal of fortune in our antagonists can help us achieve neutralization of this unholy alliance .

In the meanwhile by making us face it's vats paw , China continues to nibble on our territory bringing forward their border km by km every year just like their encroachment in the SCS. Except that the latter was brazen & done in broad daylight while in case of the former , we're active accomplices in sweeping the dirt under the carpet .We seem to lack decent options & have foreclosed the few we had .

China has been divided into two parts in the history of the United States, whether it is ideological or other reasons. Similarly, India is also divided into many parts of the United Kingdom in history, I do not understand why so many people support the split, rather than support for harmony and unity. The Anglo American system has done so many bad things in Asia that has caused us to divide and chaos, contradictions and oppositions. We have so many people here in Asia to lick the ass of the European system.

Its less to do with history. How do you explain Chinese projects on Pakistan occupied Kashmir ? If you can engage/support in projects in disputed territories by us and arm our adversaries with weapons then what is stopping us from doing the same ?
    Not everything is western conspiracy.

Why explain?China has been friendly with India and Pakistan from the start. If it were not for India to change its attitude towards the Anglo American system, we would support India as well as Pakistan.
