Yeah, the DARPA chief confirmed that the F-22 and F-35 are incapable of real time measurement of unknown signals.

She basically confirmed that the two aircraft are incapable of doing what Spectra can.

You missed the part where it says "reduced or disappears altogether"

There are three types of active cancellation. The Rafale is at the pinnacle of it.

590 n miles is the KPP for F-35A.

Keep drinking the cool aid bro'. SPECTRA does not do proper active cancellation, you even admitted this. It just messes with the pulse train, which any DRFM system will do. And officially it's >600nm. And bear in mind a 39% fuel fraction, which probably means far more in reality.

These are combat radii, which is not merely range/2. And somewhere there's a graphic showing the F-35B to do 1200nm on 10,000lbs of fuel.

^Exactly what me and @vstol jockey think of active cancellation as a substitute for stealth.

The story sounds like a hoax to me. Why are they still investing in the B-21 and B-2 upgrades, or continued F-35 and F-22 development and upgrades if they could essentially make a B-52 invisible? Then you have IR signature. PIRATE can see large planes at 150km range.

The fact is they want to make a B-52 invisible.

You know what they say about 'I want'? Never gets.

I bet you're real pissed you fitted Brahmos with a radar seeker then, because even aircraft carriers will be invisible soon...NOT!

I have repeatedly posted here that all these electronic means to suppress RCS will fail bcoz we will be able to find counter to them. In any case an AESA jammer can do nothing to low frequency radars and now we are going to have Quantum radars and Photonics very soon. Only thing that will work is what the nature follows. Small size, high TWR, strong punching power and ability to punch higher than own weight.

Of course, it's a real threat.

That's why our destroyers carry 16 AShMs. It's for saturation attacks.

Until photonics, quantum radars etc are fielded in good numbers, active cancellation will work very well. This is among the reasons why I consider the current versions of Rafale will not be effective after 2030.

However, in that same respect, even shaping based stealth will be useless after 2030.

    Here--
    http://aviationweek.com/awin/israel-us-agree-450-million-f-35-ew-work
“We think the stealth protection will be good for 5-10 years, but the aircraft will be in service for 30-40 years, so we need EW capabilities [on the F-35] that can be rapidly improved,” a senior Israeli air force (IAF) official tells Aviation Week. “The basic F-35 design is OK. We can make do with adding integrated software.”

Even this Israeli official says the F-35's shaping based stealth will be useless pretty soon. Digital AESA alone will make shaping obsolete, forget photonics or quantum radars.

This article was printed in 2012. So it is already nearing obsolescence according to him.

For example, the Russians say their new digital AESA they've made for PAK FA can pick up the F-22 from beyond the range of BVR missiles.

Not much use if none of them can see the target because some EW magic has hidden the whole thing.
