Amid Tension With Pak, Army's Show of Strength in Rajasthan
The Army said it was rehearsing battlefield mobility of troops "keeping in view the fluidity of scenario and insertion of troops by third dimension".

The Thar Shakti exercise was held by Chetak Corps with around 20,000 troops.

New Delhi: Tanks, troops, artillery guns and 20,000 soldiers concluded an exercise in the desert area of Rajasthan. The Thar Shakti exercise, meant to test the operational preparedness of the troops, comes as India-Pakistan ties dropped to one of its lowest points. The exercise began on April 10 and ended yesterday.

The Army said it was rehearsing battlefield mobility of troops "keeping in view the fluidity of scenario and insertion of troops by third dimension". "Fluidity of scenario" refers to the fast-changing environment that is going to be a characteristic of all future wars. It was meant to test the induction of troops into a tactical situation through use of airborne platforms.

Lt General Ashwani Kumar, GOC, Chetak Corps, expressed satisfaction with the preparedness of the troops, especially in view of the fact that they carried out the exercise in very high temperatures.

Over the last year, India Pakistan relations have been on a downward spiral following the terror attack in Uri and Indian Army's subsequent surgical strikes at terror bases across the Line of Control. Cross-border firing from Pakistan has claimed many lives in Jammu and Kashmir. Two weeks ago, two Indian soldiers were found mutilated and murdered at the Line of Control, in which complicity of Pakistani army is suspected.

Yesterday, the International Court of Justice started hearing India's appeal regarding the death sentence to Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav by a military court in Pakistan following an allegation of spying. India has told the court that there was an immediate threat of his execution even before the court reached a decision. Consular access to Mr Jadhav has been denied despite repeated requests of India. Pakistan has claimed overwhelming evidence of spying, but despite India's repeated requests, not provided a single shred of evidence or documents, India also told the court.

All strikes/escalations are planned seeing troop levels. You shall find one strike corps on it's routine exercise invariably at the time.

Although post Uri, 72 hours notice is a routine now ie in 72 hours all forces will get concentrated if needed (including those on leave/courses etc)

The nartative always needs to be built up. You need the whole nation on board to fight - be it an adversary or a terror.

Right now the whole nation is on board. Everyone is ready to face war whatever the outcome is. People in India are fed up with slow bleeding Nasoor and rather want a JHATKA solution either pakistani live or WE and we know our armed forces are capable enough it's always the political class which is a big let down. Let's hope this time our army and political class delivers a permanent solution to Pak and Kashmir problem and then we embark our development highway as one powerful nation.

Army lodges protest with UNMOGIP against Indian ceasefire violations
    DAWN.COMUPDATED ABOUT 2 HOURS AGO

Pakistan Army on Wednesday lodged a protest before military observers from United Nations against 'unprovoked' Indian aggression and firing on civilians from across the Line of Control (LoC).

"United Nations Military Observers at UNMOGIP were invited to GHQ to register a protest over unprovoked ceasefire violations and targeting of civilian population by Indian Army," said a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The observers were informed that the Indian army has violated ceasefire agreement on May 10, 13 and 16, added the statement.

"Indian Army used small arms, automatic and heavy calibre weapons, heavy mortars (122 mm) and field artillery in Sabzkot, Baroh, Tandar, Khuiratta, Kot Koterra and Karela Sectors to target Pakistani villages," further added the statement from the military's media wing.

The observers were also told that a civilian was killed and 15 others, including women and children, injured when Indian troops resorted to firing.

UN military observers were informed of the latest situation along the LOC, said ISPR.

No news for the past two weeks other than the usual shelling/CFV. Everybody is focused on Kulbhushan but wonder if they've forgotten about the two soldiers who were killed and are yet to be avenged. Very disappointing and demoralizing for me as an Indian.

Rumors are usually circulated. The modulus operandi suggest no more than two local militants stay together, 12 caught in a place would end the whole group in one go. Don't believe propaganda videos, they are shot before and posted much later.

If you see what is happening in these Cordon and Search Operations is that men are usually gone and women face our Jawans. These rumors can be an attempt to make our Jawans even more angry and loose their minds in such operation so that they do something which can tarnish their image. And they can gloat about It as they do with Poshspora incident and reach out to international community with some substance.

Jammu: The guns fell silent on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district after eight days of shelling and firing by Pakistani troops along the LoC from where 2,200 people had to be evacuated.

Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by resorting to firing and shelling for for eight consecutive days from May 10 till yesterday on forward posts and civilian areas along the international border in Jammu and Rajouri districts and along the Line of Control in Rajouri from May 13-17.

"There was no firing or shelling reported anywhere from LoC areas in Rajouri district. Today peace prevailed along the border with Pakistan after several days of firing and shelling," Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri Shahid Iqbal Choudhary told PTI.

However, the number of the people evacuated from LoC areas in Rajouri district has gone up to over 2,200, he said.

Yesterday, Pakistan Army resorted to firing on forward posts along LoC in Balakote sector from 12.50 AM and continued till 1.30 AM, a defence spokesman said adding the Indian Army posts retaliated strongly and effectively.

On May 14, Pakistan resorted to indiscriminate firing of small arms, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars from 6 AM and continued till late in the night along the LoC in Nowshera and Manjakote sectors of Rajouri.

Ceasefire violations also took place in Chitibakri area of Chingus and Manjakote area, Doongi, Niaka, Panjgrain and Tarkundi areas.

On May 13, authorities ordered closure of 51 schools in Nowshera sector and also Manjakote and Doongi zones even as two people were killed and three injured in the shelling.

On May 11 and 10, Pakistan Army resorted to heavy shelling and firing in Nowshera belt killing a woman and injuring two people including her husband.

"More than 12,000 persons have been affected in shelling which led to three deaths, six injured, 65 livestock dead and damage to standing crops apart from nearly 45 partially and severely damaged houses in Pakistani shelling on May 11, 13 and 14," the DC said.

Overall, of 64 villages along LoC in Rajouri, 23 are located in Nowshera sub-division where eight villages are badly affected and remaining 15 villages sustained minor damage while five villages in Doongi and nine villages in Manjakote have been affected, he added.

The governemnt has said Pakistan breached the truce along the Line of Control 449 times in 2016 as compared to 405 violations in 2015. 23 security personnel were killed in the two-year period.
