These kashmiri muslims have bitterly complained about use of pellet guns blinding people in stone pelting mobs so i would like to put forward a proposal that in the interests of saving their eyes we put a permanent ban of pellet gun and use only bofors gun so they can see the true firepower of the Hindu state.

Major re-jig of forces: Tanks, mechanised infantry to counter Pakistan in Jammu

Addition of tanks and armoured personnel carriers underlines New Delhi's determination to prevent any more surprises in this area from across the Line of Control.

The crucial Chammb-Jaurian sector in south-west Jammu and Kashmir which proved to be India's vulnerability during the 1965 and 1971 war with Pakistan has new defenders- tanks and mechanised infantry.

Top sources in the government termed the addition of tanks and mechanised infantry in Chammb and Jurian sector as a "major development."

Top Indian Army sources told India Today that the Akhnoor-based Division of the Indian Army tasked to protect the Chammb-Jaurian sector has been "rapidised."

"Rapidised" or "Rapid" units stands for 'Reorganised Army Plains Infantry Divisions'. In layman's language it means addition of armoured and mechanised infantry units.

Sources said that the Akhnoor based formation has been given two additional T-72 tank regiments and two mechanised infantry regiments.

According to sources there are at least 100 odd tanks and equal number of armoured personnel carriers have been added on to the division. The concept was developed in the 1980s by the former Chief General K Sunderji.

"Adding tanks and mechanised infantry increases the flexibility of the army. It allows army to go an offensive and respond to threats faster. Troops can be moved and deployed faster to thwart a thrust by Pakistan," sources aware of the developments told India Today.

During the 1965 Indo-Pak war and the 1971 Indo-Pak war, Pakistan tried to push its armoured columns through these fertile plains to cut-off India's access to Kashmir valley. Pitched tank battles have occurred in these plains in these two wars.

The Akhnoor division is tasked to tackle the threats at the Chammb-Jauriyan sector. Addition of the tanks and armoured personnel carriers underlines New Delhi's determination to prevent any more surprises in this area from across the Line of Control.

The Akhnoor formation will retain its infantry elements. Typically all "rapid" units contain within them a engineering unit, a reconnaissance unit and a signals unit that is equipped with the latest surveillance and target acquisition units.
